Now I know Ms Assam is apparently humble and not very outspoken but wouldn’t it have been part of her direct observation to see this POS off himself? Every account I’ve read has her closing with the perp firing at him all the way. I’m very suspicious of this report until I’ve heard corroboration or denial from witnesses.

You might also have noted misquotes of her in several stories, etc.
Before I heard this news, I had suspected the gunman might have offed himself...note that she says she "took him down" and she couldn't offer details of the incident because it was under investigation.
