COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado Springs megachurch instituted security precautions after a shooting at a Denver area mission center earlier Sunday, saving "hundreds of lives" at the New Life Church, senior Pastor Brady Boyd said Monday.
A New Life parishioner acting as a security guard shot and killed a gunman who entered the church Sunday afternoon after he had gotten no more than 50 feet inside the building, Boyd said.
...
Boyd said the female security guard was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to confront the gunman just inside the church.
"She probably saved over a hundred lives," Boyd said of the guard, whom he said is not a law enforcement officer and used her personal weapon.
...
"Hundreds of lives were saved yesterday because of the plan that was put in place," said Boyd, who put the number of people on the church campus at the time as 7,000.

But she had very fine tactical training. She unloaded one magazine and assessed My guess of the caliber is .40 or .45 She may or may not have been a LEO.
the situation as she was reloading.
Good thing she was a volunteer. A real cop would have missed or accidently shot someone else.
LOL!
You ain't kidding.
The security guard, armed with the Second Amendment, saved the lives of many innocent civilians.
With the shooters gear, she obviously knew exactly where to hit him.
Did you pick your screen name or did someone give it to you?
“What did he get wrong?”
Everything. See post #196.
Unfortunately, the shooter shot him for his efforts. Fortunately, it was a non-lethal bullet-wound.
Agree the singular common denominator of these murder scenes are that they are ALL (for the most part) either perceived as or are posted GUN FREE ZONES !
Paper laws and signs DO NOT SAVE LIVES !
This little lady with her own firearm stopped the threat !
Sorry fer screaming.....:o)
.......polidiots are deft to this fact anyway.
Um...to be accurate, I think there was some wording in the citation about his actions being, "...above and beyond the call of duty."
It's my understanding that she was an unpaid, volunteer guard, possibly with a former law enforcement background.
But even if she was a paid professional, whether private security or LEO/military, it's probable that this was her first fatal shooting- most cops have not experienced one, and a good many who do decide that the weight of that responsibility is not something they continue to bear.
And some people, it bothers not very much. I fear that the undesired spotlight of the publicity that will befall her for this particular shooting will bring her grief she does not deserve to suffer, but we shall see.
Yeah, her action was *heroic* in my professional opinion. In the military, she'd likely qualify for the Soldier's Medal, or the equivalent from other services.
Oh my heavens. You know women should never be trusted to do anything “brave”, especially with a (gasp) gun!
Who was the irresponsible person who even contemplated having a mere woman on guard? Only men should ever be posted; women not only can’t handle this scary stuff (or the physical part), but the perps won’t respect her.
</sarc off
Where were you this weekend?

Think she was a member of the military?
The preacher stated the female guard was at his office at 7:30 when he reached the campus to tell him about the incident in Arvada and to suggest additional security for the days services. She deverves a lot of credit.
I hope that decision is torturing the employers who wouldn't allow the security personnel to be armed, not the employees. Or is that what you meant to say?
Not in Colorado Springs...extremely conservative area.
Because she wasn't an idiot, pacifist, cowardly, false-Christian. Jesus never said let other people kill you or injure you without fighting back.
Dear just a dumb blonde.....um, never mind
