Both Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd have columns today.
Rich has little to say about the Iraq War. He stresses Obama opposed it and Hillary did not. Presumably, this is enough for Frank Rich and Pinch to switch sides.
Here is a quote from Rich:
But much like the Clinton campaign itself, the Republicans have fallen into a trap by continuing to cling to the Hillary-is-inevitable trope. They have not allowed themselves to think the unthinkable that they might need a Plan B to go up against a candidate who is not she. Its far from clear that they would remotely know how to construct a Plan B to counter Mr. Obama. The repeated attempts to fan rumors that he is a madrassa-indoctrinated Muslim whether on Fox News or in The Washington Post, where they resurfaced scurrilously on the front page on Thursday are too demonstrably false to survive endless reruns even in the Swift-boating era
Richs article is Whos Afraid of Barack Obama?
Maureen has a softer and more balanced approach but here is a choice quote of hers:
Except for panicked Clintonistas, everyone seems eager to see if the young pol can live up to his potential. Responding to his more combative style, the press has relaunched him, giving him a second chance to shine, on this weeks cover of Time, in the pages of The New Yorker, in the up arrow of Newsweek, which now declares him poised to be the comeback kid, and at The Times, where young female assistants lined the halls on Wednesday to watch him glide into a second meeting with editorial board writers and editors
Maureens article is O Brother, Where Art Thou?
This is a dramatic change on the part of the NYT. Even if it is brief, they seem to be acquiescing to the idea the Iraq War is going well and progress is being made. Seemingly, now they and others in the dominant media see it is time to think of someone other than Hillary..
For us it makes little difference who their candidate is. What is more and more important is new and novel leadership from our candidates with an ever increasing stress on what can be done not what has been done.
It is also time for our presidential candidates to cease the ad hominems and cheap shots at their opponents. Further, many and perhaps most voters in 2008 will have been born after 1980. This means the Cold War, Viet Nam and JFK are historical not personal remembrances. What is more and more important is we need new and novel leadership from our candidates. The election is about the future--what can be done not outweighs what has been done . This group of younger voters needs and deserves a positive, forward looking approach. Failure to grasp this will result in our failure.
“Why the photo of Katherine Zeta Jones?”
Hey. We just had a photo of Hillary at her ‘best’ and someone thoughtfully provided the photo of Katherine so we could get the Hillary coochies off our skin.
No way do I want to go to bed with Hillary’s photo being the last image in my head.
If you don’t like Katherine, post your own photo, but for God’s sake, don’t leave us with just Hillary’s!!!
: )
But why don't we have a decent crop to choose from? Why wasn't the RNC developing WH-worthy Governors 10 years ago? Why did Mehlman and his forebears not develop any?
You think the rats might see that scumbag Barack Hussein Obama as more electable than First Scumbag Hillary Clinton?? Whew.... How pathetic are the rats? Anyway, if the Clintons determine that there is the slightest chance that Barack Hussein Obama could actually beat Hillary for the rat nomination, they will destroy him.
Why not????
..Guess it’s to wipe that pic of Klinton out of our minds..IT WORKED !
The press is pushing Obama hard. Why they’ve turned on Hillary is uncertain, but irrelevant. Clearly, looking at the polls it’s easy to see that Obama is far more likely to win the general than Hillary is. This is bad. Obama makes Hillary look tough, like a hawk even, and this county cannot afford a CIC who thinks we shouldn’t even be allowed to defend ourselves.
Don’t get so cocky my friend. She is dangerous . She has BIG money and that is ultra important .She also still has huge influence on the media .Don’t underestimate her machine.
I agree. The only reason I can think of concerning the press favoring Obama is that he is secretly even more of a Marxist than Klinton.
Why would we want someone with no experience and is to young?
I would think the powers that be can do better. They are insulting themselves.
Ya hear that GOD?
“leave Hillary in the dust”.
Under 6 feet of it.
Not sure why ya posted this photo, but thanks.
Good job sir.
Yes -- this is true for the liberal elitists.
However, this is NOT true for the ethnic base of the democrat party. The ethnic base LOVES the Klintoons! This is why you cannot look at what happened with Dean and Kerry in the last election. The ethnics had NO attachment to either of those putzes, and so when the liberal elite decided it was time to dump Dean, the ethnic base had no problem following their lead. They will not dump shrillery so easily.
Shrillery WILL BE the rat nominee.
We don’t get enough of this murderers face on the news,
can you imagine having her as president and having to see her sickening face even more?
Despite all the wishful thinking including my own, I believe this is the correct assessment and part of the battle plan from the beginning.
When she wins the nomination by dumping the record amounts of illegal donations she's built up, it will be hailed as "the second coming" by the lib camp. The calls of "Come back kid II" will be hailed by all media outlets and the drone will continue endlessly until the election.
We look forward to articles by Maureen. The reward makes it worthwhile.
I say go for it, turn her into a human speedbump........
Why not?
America will not elect a Black Muslim. Half of America seems to be repulsed by the beast. To save our country we must vote the lesser of two evils we must vote for the GOP nominee or we will be putting a socialist in the White House.
