US: 'Mohammed' teddy bear case 'outrageous'
Yahoo News ^ | Nov 29,2007

The United States, backing staunch ally Britain, branded as "outrageous" the jail sentence of a British teacher in Sudan who let pupils call a teddy bear "Mohammed" as part of a class project. "Obviously, it's an outrage," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said after a judicial source in Sudan said Gillian Gibbons, 54, would be jailed for 15 days for insulting Islam and then deported.

"We stand with our UK allies in trying to make sure that this woman is protected from the court that says that they want to impose this sentence on her," said Perino.

"Anyone looking at this on its face would have to conclude that it was outrageous."

No doubt the daffy broad is a liberal, getting what all liberals will get in the end if they are lucky.

The Muslim Council of Britain, an umbrella organization of British Muslim groups, has said the punishment is “completely unjustified” and has said it is “appalled”, and called on the Sudanese government to intervene

The bear was named Muhammad after one of the boys in the class who had that name

The government of Sudan is protecting this idiot.

Actually it was the children who voted on that name for the bear.

dedicated to the education of Christian and Muslim kids together

Wasn't there a parable about this, involving a frog and a scorpion? "I gave you a ride. Why did you sting me?" "Hey, you knew I was a scorpion."

Without a massive effort to apply intense international pressure, scorn, derision and disapproval, the Muzzies will continue to merrily ignore the rest of the world’s opinion and continue with their backward, ignorant, idiotic, 7th Century practices common to their cult of oppression, ignorance, slavery and murder.

Seems to me it took a fair amount more than just scorn and disapproval to put them down in the past. I'm not sure we will have what it takes to take care of the problem.

Hey! Muslim dudes!

How the heck do you expect anybody in the world to respect your tinpot religion if you advocate killing over a teddy bear?

The insane thing is that this woman didn’t herself name the bear. Are they going to execute the school children, too?

Maybe the idea of educating Christian and Muslim kids together in Sudanese schools isn't a very good one.

I had a fascinating conversation with someone last summer who had a family member involved with some program similar to "Doctors Without Borders." This was not a religious group at all, but their leadership had just made a formal decision to stop all of their work in Islamic regions of Africa because they simply couldn't overcome the severe cultural dysfunction in those places.

This guy said that this group's biggest mistake was its failure to understood how important it was to deal with people who have some of the basic cultural norms we take for granted here in the West.

There's a reason why Africa is a dysfunctional sh!t-hole that is pretty much beyond redemption by any social/economic measure.

she taught the world another lesson in the intolerance of the death cult of Islam.

No kidding. Even among the upper classes, even when they are schooled w/Christians, these islamofacists know no decency, aren't appreciative of someone coming to their (literally) god-forsaken country to educate their children, and have no sense of understanding or generosity of spirit. They should have just told her don't do it again, and let the issue go, but no, they want her head.

I think that any parents who name their children muhammed should also be covered under this ruling as well!

Yes, and apparently the child and his family went to defend the teacher, although without any success. The kids actually could pick from three names (suggested by them) and Mohammed won.

Oops! Yet another case of my posting a message before reading past the headline!

The 15 days of jail sucks, but hey... Being deported? It doesn’t get any better than that!

The thing is that this morning on the news, I heard that they’re now calling for the murder of this woman as “punishment.”

Mark

the group's biggest mistake was its failure to understood how important it was to deal with people who have some of the basic cultural norms we take for granted here in the West.

This is an excellent, excellent point. I think very few people understand that what we assume to be a normal and universal way of viewing things is really the product of the particular philosophical and religious ideas that provided the foundation for Western civilization.

That is, there actually is such a thing as universal values - say, the right to life - but this fact is not automatically recognized and in fact it is only in the West where we recognize it and base our society on it. We keep banging our heads against the wall, trying to treat people who do not in any way share these ideas as if they really did understand them and were just pretending they didn't or having temporary difficulties in applying them.

Gee, it's a shame that their belief is so shakey the Muzzies must imprison a teacher because kids chose that name for a teddy bear.

Look at how many "little Mos" muslim parents create... And LOTS of them are "rather unsavory characters!"

"Death to muslim parents who create 'little mos!'"

"Oh, wait! That's me!"

Well, yes, it’s an “outrage,” but more importantly it’s insane. They should name it for what it is.

I guess one of those women must be the one who “reported” the teacher. Odd, because they’re not wearing veils and don’t look particularly orthodox Muslim.

CAN WE ALL PLEEEASE S-T-O-P GIVING THESE COUNTRIES $$$$$$!!!

The U.S. Has given BILLIONS to these countries and have never used their Generosity as the same Political Leverage as countries like Sudan!

ANY Country that has a HOUR OF ANTI-AMERICANISM and HATE After EVERYONE of their Friday Prayers should receive ZERO!!!

(Just as Iran as the rest have THEIR "Anti-American-DEATH to Infidels" Rallies after Prayers; having their Gov't Radio and TV Broadcasted- WE should make it law that ALL CHANNELS/Radio ALSO Broadcast Segments of THAT so the American Public can HEAR them and HEAR the Lunacy of the Democrat "Foreign policy Stand" of using " Peaceful Diplomacy" in dealing with these radical Countries and regimes!)
