WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and will be evaluated at George Washington University Hospital.

The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors for a lingering cough from a cold.

"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

It would also be fun to see the rats say she should not be confirmed for misleading the U.S. (Left) about Saddam and WMD. Then the pres can set up monitors and have footage of William Jefferson and The Beast quoted as they talked about Iraq during bubba’s tenure and before the war vote.

If he needs to take a respite, who would be next in line for his position?

Prez appoints anyone he wants, senate has to approve it.

******Although I am not sure if irregular heartbeat is horrible news. Many people have it.******

I, too, have had a history of atrial fib episodes. Atrial irregular heartbeats can result in formation of clots which as you know could settle in a brain or lung. Either one could cause a stroke or death.

Ventricular irregular heartbeat could cause instant death.

Please don’t ever take lightly any irregularity of the heart.

My dear mother just went through this 2 weeks ago. The drugs did not work and the shock to the heart resulted in her coding, she passed away. Prayers for the VP.

Sorry for your loss Uncbob, I guess I meant to say being in a-fib without any overt cause present.

Condi would be my preference as VP...

On the plus side, this would get her out of a position she seem unqualified to hold. However, I'm not sure she would do any better in the VP spot. Bolton, Hunter, Thompson - they would give the Dims more fits.

So sorry that happened to your mom. I’m certainly going to nag my hubby when he gets home to pay more attention to his health now, because he doesn’t seem to think that this stuff is any big deal.....

“Condi would be my preference as VP in case Cheney steps down, that would give the dem’s an irregular heartbeat, for sure!”
John Bolton would be my choice!

You don't take a 'respite' from the office of Vice-President. You're either Veep or your not. Now, if your wondering who's next in line should Vice President Cheney resign for health reasons then it would be Nancy Pelosi until a replacement Vice President is named and confirmed by both houses of Congress.

If Cheney is to resign for health reasons, the Dems would not confirm any nominee. They would leave a hole in the line of succession and have Pelosi next in line. That is frightening on many levels. I don’t think to need to explain.

President would appoint someone and the Senate must confirm.

Senate AND House, per the 25th Amendment.

My dad has this condition in it’s most severe form. He lives a somewhat normal life now with a pacemaker and several surgeries to try and correct the areas which were causing electrical problems to heart, which didn’t work at least major progress is being made in this field. he was diagnosed with atrial fib in his mid-40’s and he’s now in his 50’s, and from what I’m told this condition happens to many who are elderly and not so much younger people under 60-70.
Hopefully the Vice President’s condition isn’t bad enough to require a pacemaker or surgeries.

In the case of a replacement vice president both Senate and House have to confirm. The 25th Amendment requires it.
