WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and will be evaluated at George Washington University Hospital.
The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors for a lingering cough from a cold.
"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

back in Nixon’s day his VP agnew resigned, ford was appointed VP and when Nixon resigned Ford became President without ever being elected VP........history is fascinating....
Actually, the full Congress votes on the replacement. This is a rarity in our government, but it applies here.
Also, the only way Pelosi gets moved up is if there is no VP and the Pres dies. Not likely.
Finally, for those conspiracy theorists out there—this allows the Repub’s the ability to have a Woman and an African American in a Constitutional position before the Dems. Go Condi.

If we could get her out of the State Department, and replace here with somebody good, and put her in the VP slot where she could have minimal damage for the final year, I would support it.
Last time it happened, Nelson Rockefeller was appointed. Republicans don’t have a real good batting average with appointed VPs.
Atrial Fib is serious. I have a friend that has had an ablation due to atrial fibrillation and on top of that procedure which was no fun—it did not work the first time. The excelerated heartbeat takes a terrific toll on a person and saps their energy. I hope he is not in serious shape. Being sent home is a good sign but it by far doesn’t mean he is well. Cleveland Clinic has much information. It is serious and I believe it can be fatal.

Also I do remember reading somewhere at one time he was on aspirin so maybe he had gone back to the low dose aspirin so again his blood was thin.
I know in Britain normally they would not do this procedure unless your reading is something between 2.50 and 3.50 so I must admit I was surprised they did it straight away.
It leads me to believe that he must be on some sort of blood thinners.
