PRIME Minister John Howard has called Labor leader Kevin Rudd to concede defeat in the federal election.

Ugh. If he's dumb enough to fall for the Kyoto scam he's not to be trusted on much of anything else. Besides that he's a "former diplomat" which puts him in my negative column immediately until proven otherwise.
Goodbye Mr. Howard, we'll miss you!
Hmmm....would that mean that Rudd was saying something like "our workers deserve a 34 hour work week, six weeks holiday every year,a minimum wage of $40/hr,retirement at 50 and no layoffs" would it?
...and the fact that the Coalition had been in power for nearly 12 years.
Isn't the Australian economy running as well as it ever has before these days? If so,the voters must have said to themselves "things are going great.Let's try something completely different".
I would have no problem if the headline was “United States Ally Defeated” instead of “Bush Ally Defeated” but the MSM will never understand that one. John Howard has been a great friend to the United States; thank you, sir.
Expect a big loud cheer from the head-chopper crowd. That’s the end of Australia.
Howard was a true friend, and someone who disliked the Islamofascists as much as we did.
Drudge had this link to a Sky News article:
"Voters warmed to his promise to pull Australian troops out of Iraq and sign the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, further isolating the United States, which had received strong backing from Mr Howard."
Sad news, but life will continue. Howard is one of my favorites. By his actions on the world stage, he showed us that he sees the world as it is, a rare trait for anyone, especially for a world leader. He will be missed.
Oh, I wasn’t being critical, just asking. I have no idea how popular that position is in AU. I do know Howard had his plate full with internal terrorist threats, seems gun ownership would have fit right in.
I’m so very sorry to hear this, Fred!
So much for thinking Australia was a good country with sound principles. People cowered to the liberal and now the world will pay the price. You are correct, this is WWII all over again. God help us if this should happen in the USA.
Getting a taste of the feeling before it happens here... :-(
This will be the stinger in the heart of all Australia.
not good
Does Rudd's win mean that Australia will not be going nuclear? If so, will it be selling off the uranium to China?
Good comment. If Rudd really mishandles things, he’ll be a one-term Prime Minister.
There are too many countries deciding to commit “political suicide” without even fully knowing about what they just did to themselves! In the U.S., the Republican Party at every political level continues to function without any true “political spine”! What’s to truly prevent the “far leftward socialistic political change” that probably will be coming here, starting in January ‘09? There are way too many “stupid voters” and way too many “politically ignorant” voters all over the U.S., and their numbers continue to increase daily! Help!!!
Kerry’s sister was over there in ‘04, but I haven’t followed what she’s been up to lately.
We're conservatives who understand that keeping the right to defend ourselves is the key to keeping a free society. That's who we are.
And since Australia is a key ally and a big part of the free world, we have every right to comment on their politics. Hence the existence of this thread.
Change for the sake of change. Sounds a lot like to 2006 elections in the US.
I disagree. If the majority in Australia voted for the wrong guy, I from here in the USA will say so.
I believe Howard was the right guy.
