Obama: I Tried Drugs As a Teen
By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer 15 minutes ago
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Tuesday told high school students that when he was their age he was hardly a model student, experimenting with illegal drugs and drinking alcohol.
Obama stopped by a study hall at Manchester Central High School and answered students' questions about the war in Iraq and his education plan. But when an adult asked about his time as a student, Obama spoke bluntly.
"I will confess to you, I was kind of a goof-off in high school. My Mom reminds me of that," said Obama, an Illinois Democrat who grew up in Hawaii
"You know, I made some bad decisions that I've actually written about. You know, got into drinking. I experimented with drugs," he said. "There was a whole stretch of time that I didn't really apply myself a lot. It wasn't until I got out of high school and went to college that I started realizing, 'Man, I wasted a lot of time.'"
Obama has written about his drug use in his memoir, "Dreams from My Father."
"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final fatal role of the young would be black man," Obama wrote. Mostly he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol, Obama wrote, but occasionally he would snort cocaine when he could afford it.
Drugs, Obama wrote, were a way he "could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory."

REALLY!
I recall in my senior year of HS, sitting in class with a friend and discussing who in the class we KNEW for a fact had smoked weed. It became easier to name who we suspected had NOT.
Out of a classroom of 30 students, only 3 were identified as possibly having never smoked weed and only because we didn’t know for sure from personal observation.
Doesn’t matter, Hillary has the nomination locked-boxed up.
I was wondering the same thing.
....still heartbroken about the formula change in Preparation H.
In the book, Obama acknowledges that he used cocaine as a high school student but rejected heroin. “Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though,” he says.
A "little blow" sounds a little more than a little.
Some things never change.
while that is TRULY admirable, I’m afraid you don’t have many members in that little club.
No matter, he’s already admitted he did coke. Now I wonder why the left won’t jump on that red meat but they’ll still whip out the “Chimpy McCokespoon” card even now?
Just send me a check for that "lot of money" you bet!
Did he succeed in his attempt to become a black man? I'm on the edge of my seat.
That’s a big Jeep.
I don’t know if this applies to Obama or not, but my husband grew up in the islands and drugs, especially marijuana, were a big part of life there for teenagers. Although his dad was with an airline there, my husband spent his time with the locals. Based on his experiences and stories, I would think that kids in the islands (Hawaii, Guam in particular) who do NOT try marijuana, are in the minority.
Ill take that bet. Know why? Obama has already admitted to this in his book
‘THE AUDACITY OF WEED’?
You do now, baby doll!
And I am d&*n proud of it!
:-)
It’s not that he tried drugs that bothers me most. It’s that he’s a howling lefty moonbat that convinces me he isn’t fit to be president.
Is anyone outraged that Obama waited to tell kids about this?
Maybe they can book Bill Clinton to come over any make his sex "is is" confession.
Maybe all the candidates should stop at the local school and confess their sins.
Ha! Good point. He was lying on the vinyl couch in the basement, the one with the mildew smell, smokin' a doobie and listening to some Floyd. Why doesn't he just admit it?
