Medved on 'Redacted': 'It Could Be the Worst Movie I've Ever Seen'

"It could be the worst movie I've ever seen" ... "[T]he out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered." ... "It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable." ... "This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars." ... "I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film." ... "It is a slander on the United States of America." ... "Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed." ... "Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will!"

That's prominent movie critic Michael Medved on the new film "Redacted." Lest anyone think that Bill O'Reilly's recent outrage over the film is an overreaction, Medved tells Bill, "It's worse than you think."

Johnny Dollar's Place has the must-hear audio.

The following is a partial transcript:

MEDVED: ... I am actually one of the few people in the country who has seen the new movie. It is called "Redacted" ... And let me just tell you, before I go to actually reviewing it: It could be the worst movie I've ever seen. I mean, the out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered. This is having reviewing movies for more than 25 years. [It] covers a lot of disgusting ground, but none more disgusting than 'Redacted,' which portrays the Marine Corps, one of the finest organizations ever assembled by human beings, portrays the U.S. Marine Corps, as corrupt, vicious, racist killers and rapists ... (snip) ...

It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable. They hang out in barracks, drunk or stoned, with Confederate flags all over the place. And the head Marine, who is the leading rapist and murderer, is a big fat guy, I mean, hugely out of shape, right - just the typical Marine (sarcastic) - Marines tend not to look like that - big fat guy, overhanging belly, cigar-chomping, loud-mouthed, sort of fair-complexion. His name is Rush. Nothing in movies is an accident. They're clearly trying to indict and smear Rush Limbaugh by saying that secretly he wants to rape and abuse 14-year old girls and murder them and then burn their bodies ... (snip) ...

The film is atrociously acted. It's incredibly badly done ... (snip) ...

Look, I never say this. I don't believe in boycotts. I don't. But I actually think Bill O'Reilly, I know has been going on about this movie even though he hasn't seen it. O.K. I've now seen it. Bill, Bill - hey. It's worse than you think.

This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars as far as I'm concerned. It's very much Rated R. I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film. I have seen a lot of unspeakable garbage in years and years of reviewing movies. Nothing quite like this. It is a slander on the United States of America. It is a slander on the Marine Corps. It is a slander on our troops. Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, paid for this entirely. Now he elsewhere has given money to support the troops. I know he has. He ought to be ashamed. Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed. I will never see a Brian De Palma film in the same way again. This is a veteran Hollywood director. What is he trying to do with this kind of thing? Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will! Because it portrays the United States troops in Iraq as sick, murderous, deviant losers.

Ugh. Do yourself a favor. Avoid De Palma and Cuban's piece of filth and trash. This Thanksgiving, go see "Bella." It's a nice, sweet film, and it's great.

I liked the Low budget (?) Beowolf I rented from Block Buster. Saw the next one on TV. That one was OK, not as good as the rented one.

Me and the older daughters, who had to read the book, will go see the 3D one Wednesday.

Brian DePalma is a major perv. I was disgusted by some of his moronic movies with really pervy stuff in them

Scarface was great but of course he had to include the sicko brother-sister love stuff

Don’t just boycott the movie. Boycott the Dallas Mavericks. And the Cubs, if this anti-American piece of garbage buys them.

Blowout seemed like a low budget who done it to me. It wasn’t overly impressive, but I enjoyed it.

Casino Royall was good. I enjoyed it more than blowout to be sure.

As for Redacted, DePalma may wish it was retracted by the time this is all over.

Thanks for the post.

Redacted is playing on a very limited basis right now. I’m not sure what they plan on doing with it.

The word “boycott” is dumb, though. It shows us as fanatics

Fanatics? Why? We're not marching in the streets in clown costumes shouting, "Hey hey, ho ho, Marky Cuban's got to go."

The word "boycott" is appropriate. It fits what I intend to do regarding anything Cuban is involved in, and it suggests organization, which is what conservatives sorely lack. I'm not going to let left-wing nutjobs steal yet another perfectly good word.

How is Cuban making money IN TEXAS! Why are people buying tickets to Mavericks games? I hope the MF goes bankrupt and is ostracized by the community.

As a FORMER Mavs fan here in Dallas, I couldn't agree with you more. Go Spurs!

I heard him reviewing this movie. I have never heard Medved so upset ... ever in all the years I have listened to him. To think that this will be used by our enemy to recruit terrorists.

I agree. The only other time I heard him this worked up about a movie was around the time of 'Passion of the Christ.' He opened his show with an incredibly passionate monologue about how critics were trying to pan a great film like 'Passion' after having praised such garbage in the past. (I think I remember him citing an awful and gross film called "Crash," which critics supposedly fawned over.)

God bless Michael Medved.

Does anyone deny the below happened:

Wow, that's a DU phrase if I've ever heard one. Atrocities have happened in every single war since the dawn of man. Heck, there was a time when "rape & pillage" was EXPECTED and appropriate for the conquerers. Whenever you get groups of people you're going to get bad apples. How about doing criminal profiles of 200,000 or so war protesters (if you can even find that many in one place) and make a movie about them committing crimes 1000 times worse than what they were convicted of. And while we're at it, lets just add a few more protesters to the mix. If only one or two committed the rape/murder/bombing of a bank building, etc. lets just double or triple the number so the public gets the impression that ALL war protesters are rapists/murderers/bombers.

The fact is, the military is very good about policing their own. The Marine Corps motto is "The Few, The Proud" and they take it very seriously. Heck, they've now begun persecuting (yes, that's not a misspelling of prosecuting) men who were in a day-long, bloody battle just to appease certain left-of-center congress members and an absolutely rabid press. As a society, we used to hold those who chose to serve their country, doing the "work most Americans won't do" in high esteem. We used to be "nuanced" (to use a phrase the left is fond of) enough to understand these kinds of crimes were aberrations and not the norm. Movies were about the heroes, not the handful of criminals. We didn't start this crap until Vietnam War. Now it's rare to have a film that doesn't show the military doing something heinous, criminal, etc. or where they aren't "cracking under pressure" (the only kind of soldier the left is capable of seeing as heroic is broken and victimized). We can't even show NORMAL anymore, let alone heroic. Think about it. And while you're thinking about that, you might also concentrate on the the 1000's of troops that conduct themselves with honor EVERY SINGLE DAY. Look at pictures of soldiers being completely surrounded by smiling, enthusiastic Iraqi children. One could logically assume if they lived in fear of our soldiers they wouldn't seek them out.

Maybe if you stop focusing on the few that commit crimes (bet statistically it's a smaller ratio than the general public), you wouldn't have to come over to FR and ask us to "deny" that something happened. I'll do you another favor, since you're new here, do a search and read the threads about these crimes. You'll see that we're just as appalled as the left (if not more so). We've got many vets and military families here so things that sullies the reputations of people and organizations we take great pride in (especially since we know the press will make a big deal out of them) is particularly painful. Then you might do a search on an incident like Haditha and see all the research that's been done, all the facts that are discussed that the media (who couldn't wait to accuse our Marines) are now conveniently ignoring. This movie goes way too far and is just another slap in the face by a left that will never truly understand what honor and character mean.

A lot of conservative themed books do huge business but other than the “Coulter” type pundit books, won’t ever appear on the NY Times book list!

Who cares! Is that really meaningful anyway? If it's so important to be on a book list, we'll have our own book list. The Conservative Times Book List. Seriously, the New York Times book list means nothing, and SHOULD mean nothing in the Conservative world.

How is that done?

You are asking a guy who can can't even take a cell phone picture without being blurry????

Do you need to wear 3D glasses? ........Yes

Can you see it if you already wear glasses?

You put the 3-D glasses over your regular glasses......think Clark Kent type 3-D glasses........way cool if you are into the 50's and greasing your hair back...........
