That's prominent movie critic Michael Medved on the new film "Redacted." Lest anyone think that Bill O'Reilly's recent outrage over the film is an overreaction, Medved tells Bill, "It's worse than you think."
Johnny Dollar's Place has the must-hear audio.
The following is a partial transcript:
MEDVED: ... I am actually one of the few people in the country who has seen the new movie. It is called "Redacted" ... And let me just tell you, before I go to actually reviewing it: It could be the worst movie I've ever seen. I mean, the out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered. This is having reviewing movies for more than 25 years. [It] covers a lot of disgusting ground, but none more disgusting than 'Redacted,' which portrays the Marine Corps, one of the finest organizations ever assembled by human beings, portrays the U.S. Marine Corps, as corrupt, vicious, racist killers and rapists ... (snip) ...
It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable. They hang out in barracks, drunk or stoned, with Confederate flags all over the place. And the head Marine, who is the leading rapist and murderer, is a big fat guy, I mean, hugely out of shape, right - just the typical Marine (sarcastic) - Marines tend not to look like that - big fat guy, overhanging belly, cigar-chomping, loud-mouthed, sort of fair-complexion. His name is Rush. Nothing in movies is an accident. They're clearly trying to indict and smear Rush Limbaugh by saying that secretly he wants to rape and abuse 14-year old girls and murder them and then burn their bodies ... (snip) ...
The film is atrociously acted. It's incredibly badly done ... (snip) ...
Look, I never say this. I don't believe in boycotts. I don't. But I actually think Bill O'Reilly, I know has been going on about this movie even though he hasn't seen it. O.K. I've now seen it. Bill, Bill - hey. It's worse than you think.
This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars as far as I'm concerned. It's very much Rated R. I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film. I have seen a lot of unspeakable garbage in years and years of reviewing movies. Nothing quite like this. It is a slander on the United States of America. It is a slander on the Marine Corps. It is a slander on our troops. Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, paid for this entirely. Now he elsewhere has given money to support the troops. I know he has. He ought to be ashamed. Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed. I will never see a Brian De Palma film in the same way again. This is a veteran Hollywood director. What is he trying to do with this kind of thing? Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will! Because it portrays the United States troops in Iraq as sick, murderous, deviant losers.
Ugh. Do yourself a favor. Avoid De Palma and Cuban's piece of filth and trash. This Thanksgiving, go see "Bella." It's a nice, sweet film, and it's great.
IT IS TIME FOR GOOD AMERICANS TO STAND UP AND SAY...WE’RE MAD AS HELL AND WE’RE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE...I mean it...I’m calling for a boycott of anyone associated with this film....I’m talking Mark Cuban especially. We can hit him hard...Dallas Mavericks...HDTV..and DePalma...Hollywood is a big reason why we are hated around the world. And they just keep going on and on. I am so MAD.
The ONLY thing that will deter these people from making such shameful movies is PUBLIC DISDAIN!
Brian DePalma and Mark Cuban and all of the actors should have their faces on posters to enable people to identify them. Wherever they go they should be loudly booed and hissed. Taxi drivers should refuse their fares. Bad tables at restaurants, with poor, insolent service. Dry cleaners should lose their clothing. Hairdressers should cut their hair too short. UPS should lose their packages. Hotels should short-sheet them. Their lives should be made miserable by every honest citizen.
I swear to God if I saw Mark Cuban in an airport, I would tell the TSA he was a suspected terrorist and should be strip-searched just to make sure he was explosive-free.
I’ve spoken with Mark Cuban several times over the years. He was a big fan of Bill Veeck, whom my Dad wrote books with. I was talking to him about making Veeck, As in Wreck into a Movie...this man, who made this movie, didn’t think that people would go to see a movie about one of the greatest baseball promoters of all time...back when Baseball was a game. It would be a wholesome, family movie. Now, I wouldn’t let him touch our story if he offered us a Million bucks...and I’m not kidding.
He’ll be back on Dancing with the Stars, ya know...at the end...he’s lucky this all didn’t come to light until after he was on.
This means he agreed with the political agenda but thought it sucked technically.
I’m glad to hear that.
Many people flock to his sucsess
Boycotts are dumb. Just don’t see it. And encourage your friends not to waste their money on it. Same thing in essence as a “boycott,” but without the arm waving.
When Cuban (his last name fits the bastardo socialist cockroach aptly)bought the Mavs I thought it was great but his politics has turned me off them till he is no longer associated with the club.
As always the Shiite rises to the top in Hollywood.
Cuban is good on sports, but a jerk on a lot of life
I was quite glad he lost when he did. It’s a shame he wasn’t the first off the show.
I noticed he shaved off his goatee after the first couple of performances. Maybe he was thinking a more wholesome image would get him votes....HA!
I saw Beowulf Friday night. You wear an over sized set of polarized glasses that fit over your own glasses. One lens is 90 degrees out of phase with the other matching similar polarization on the projector. Color is not affected. So long as you have normal binocular vision, you can watch Beowulf... And should.
I'm laughing and nodding in agreement at the same time. Really well put. I like the short-sheeting and would go a step further. When De Palma stays at a hotel, rather than find a bible in the drawer, he should find a book entitled 99 Reasons Why Brian De Palma Sucks Ass.
I read the novel “No Country For Old Men.” I thought it was terrific, but the ending was a total downer. Same in the flick?
You know what we need? Matching funds for the public! If you cut Cuban's hair, we will DOUBLE the rate Cuban pays if you give him a bad haircut! We will DOUBLE the tip rate for any waitress who provides bad service! And so forth...until both of these jerks are curled up in a fetal position in a flop house somewhere, crying for their mommies because no one likes them.
The left should be very glad that vengeful Miss Marple, who carries the DNA of the McClain can and the dreaded Norsemen, is not in charge of this country. I would absolutely have these two arrested as seditionists. Period.
What an appealing notion!
One of the reasons that people like this get away with this stuff is because their peers tell them they are wonderful and the general public fawns over them because they are famous.
It is time that the public got a grip on what's important and quit sucking up to people like this. I am tired of celebrities acting like whatever garbage they say is holy writ, and the rest of us have to kowtow to them.
Pfui on that! Mark Cuban is a dim bulb who got lucky in the dot-com era. He is not an expert on the military or foreign affairs. I bet he couldn't locate 20 foreign capitals if his life depended on it. Why should HE be foisting his ignorant opinion on the public? Heck, he can't even dance!!
Shame and shunning are pretty good ideas, if you ask me!
One thing he says against O'Reilly: The people who take you literally took it upon themselves to call my businesses with bomb threats, threaten employees, myself and others with physical harm and wish every manor of death, injury and illness on us all.
"Manor of Death"? Was that an Agatha Christie novel?

To do such a thing requires the support of service employers. So when the waitress gives them the surly treatment and they complain to her boss, her boss will tell them to shove off rather than fire her at their behest. The same goes for hotel operators, cab companies, etc. Unfortunately many of us who don’t work in the service industry won’t encounter them. I’d love to program in an exemption to a certain defense system to *never* protect certain houses (hee, hee) but that’s not exactly realistic (*no*, I haven’t done such a thing nor am I *that* stupid to attempt to, to the lurkers out there—the point is that Cuban and company aren’t in my envelope of existence).
