After reading the two new bio's by Bernstein and Gerth & Van Natta as well as watching the various debates and press coverage I began to wonder who is more Nixonion Hillary Clinton or Richard Nixon himself. With her wiretapping, enemies lists and other activities prior to being elected as president I think it's Hillary. She doesn't have the 5 O'clock shadow but she does have the jowls.
“She doesn’t have the 5 O’clock shadow but she does have the jowls.”
That is hilarious
And they have paranoia in common - they’ll both go into siege mode as a precautionary measure at the drop of a hat.
Nixon was a brilliant statesman and politician.
Compared to Nixon, Her Heinous is just another political hack in a pantsuit.
What a great parallel. I think it should be pumped at every opportunity until it is in the public psyche.
Nixon was at least a patriot who wanted to do what was right for the US and had some real accomplishments...Clinton had almost nothing to show for 8 years but photo-ops, avoiding removal from office, and strengthening Red China.
Hillary is simply BETTER at being Nixon than Nixon was. Hillary managed to get FBI files and eavesdrop on her enemies without getting caught - or at least getting punished.
So, my vote goes to Hillary.
If you go back to Clinton's infamous letter when he dropped out of ROTC (after getting a high number in the lottery), he doesn't say in so many words that he himself loathes the military, but rather speaks of people he admires who do...so he was being Clintonesque already then.
Hillary has been the target of no one. No one was bothered by her. Hillary has brought on all the opposition on herself, by her actions, by her aggression, by her demagoguery.
That means Hillary is more Nixonian than Nixon. Bob Tyrell has called her Hillary Milhous Clinton for years.
Hehehe... the fact is that any time someone wants to insult you, he will call you either, “Nazi”, “McCarthy” or “Nixon”.. at least that’s been MY personal experience. A real insult would be calling me “Hillary”.
I think that the answer to your question depends on what the definition of “is” is.
Nixon also served in the Navy in WWII.
No, Bill and Hill didn’t learn anything from Nixon that wasn’t already an integral part of their personas.
Hillary has brought most this on herself, but she’s also used other people to get where she is today - Nixon is the polar opposite, he did it on his own.
The left hated Nixon, and tried to run him down because of the Hiss Case, Helen Gahagan Douglas, and the Checkers Speech, but before he was elected President it wasn't clear that Nixon was more dishonest or deceptive than other politicians.
It was an aggressive style of campaigning that won him the "Tricky Dick" label, but had he really earned a reputation for lying or evading the truth before he was elected? Or was that just something liberals attributed to Nixon because they didn't like what he said about his early opponents, Voorhis and Douglas?
Maybe somebody else knows more about this than I do, but it looks to me like Hillary, starting out with a known propensity for shading the truth is more Nixonian than Nixon was (at least up to 1969). Or is it just the difference between aggressive and defensive liars?
Bill Clinton also had a reputation for getting caught in his own lies from the beginning. But he had a "Happy Warrior" thing going (at least in the eyes of his supporters). A "Nixon" has to be gloomy and brooding. Hillary is. Her husband -- not so much.
Hillary could answer all of your questions if she wanted to. She is probably one of the few reamining who personally investigated (trumped up) Watergate as a young lawyer in Washington.
I believe if the internet had existed back then as it does today, Watergate probably would have never grown legs or gone anywhere.
And no matter how my teacher taught me,:
"Wax On Wax Off!"
ain't gonna help that bikini line!
