Newt Gingrich: Hillary's Nomination Chances Just Dropped From 80 to 50 Percent
NRO ^ | November 01, 2007 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 11/02/2007 5:35:38 AM PDT by COUNTrecount

Newt Gingrich called in to Sean Hannity's radio program to discuss Hillary Clinton's debate performance.

Highlights:

“Her performance in that debate was so bad, on issues that matter so much, she may not be able to recover from it… This issue of Spitzer trying to give out driver's licenses to people at a time when your driver’s license allows you to vote — for her to trap herself into saying that creates a big wound…

The fact that she said she’s basically sympathetic with Rangel’s trillion-dollar-tax increase — that’s going to arouse some deep opposition. The huge Democratic tax increase allowed us to win in 1994… Then, I saw in a ticker on Fox News, when Sen. Edwards said nominating her would be ‘a victory for a corruption machine’… it brings back a lot of memories of the Chinese funding scandals of 1996… It takes her winning the nomination from an 80 percent likelihood to a 50 percent. It’s even money. If she doesn’t turn this around quick, I may have to call back in and take it even lower.”

Newt wants senators to try to get an amendment on a bill banning states from offering driver’s licenses to those who are in the country illegally.

But its hard to trot GW out to campaign stops now with this on the front burner.

Oh I don't think we'll be seeing GW campaign for the next nominee.

He would do it if he was asked but I doubt he'll be asked.

The perfect TV add against Hillary would be to run a clip of her saying her qualifications included revamping the Arkansas school system. That resulted in the schools going from 49th to 50th in the nation.

Agree.

If the repubs have a backbone they can flood the media with the hundreds of sound bites like this about all rat candidates. Sound bites, because that's what most of the general public remembers.

Wait until she gets in front of a pubbie with any kind of spine.

I have to wonder if old Hill will even agree to debate the Republican nominee. She seems to be pretty good at getting her way & I wouldn't be surprised if she just avoids the problem altogether.

Dick M. on with Bill O. last night...Dick thinks this hurt her and that she may lose Iowa. Bill says so what, she’ll take the other states. Dick still thinks she wins the presidency; Bill says she may not. Bill says—People will end up saying I can’t trust this woman! And Bush 41 tells Chris Wallace for FNS that she may not get the nomination. When asked if he’ll be supportive of his friend Bubba’s wife, he says—NO!

Republicans have a whole host of issues on which they will win. I can't think of one reason to vote for a Democrat.

Immigration is huge. Every illegal brought here is at least one (maybe more) votes for a RAT.

Do American voters love paying these kinds of prices for energy with no hope for further supply because of the Democrats and their wacko enviro friends.

There can't be one sane American who would trust a Democrat with our national security. Democrats are clearly on the side of the terrorists. They protect them at every turn. We have the latest evidence of that going on right now with the RATS refusing to vote for Bush's nominee because he won't denounce waterboarding as torture. (Don't you just love Teddy's raving about waterboarding as torture?)

Maybe it's the promised increase in taxes that Americans are wanting.

Yup, one has to be nuts to even consider voting for a RAT.

AimHigh, you’re exactly right. If Edwards ( a moronic dope ambulance chasing Communist), or Obama (The Magic Negro) had any testicles they’d run that ad NOW to stick it to her. Unfortunately, they’re just pussies!

The licensing fumble by Clinton can definitely be exploited by the GOP...........

A Republican strategist was jumping up and down with joy: "Licensing is an 80-20 issue for us and they're walking right into it." That would be "80-20," as in 80% of Americans oppose it.

This is a rare consensus issue in politics.

As the strategist said: “You probably couldn't get 80% of Americans to go to a baseball game. Or eat apple pie. Or talk to their mother. But giving illegal aliens driver's licenses? "The vast majority of Americans are against this - especially among likely voters.“

Amazingly----in Democratic strongholds such as New York and California------one pollster said voters oppose such plans by 75%.

Dropped to 50%

So who is gonna get it? Who is a possibility?

He doesn’t say, so his premise is bogus

Voter fraud is already a violation of federal law. They just need to enforce that by whatever means necessary.

To all those “only Rudy can beat Hillary” types...she’s a horrible debater. ANY republican can beat her (if they want to).

Mitt Romney got off the best Hillary Slapdown so far (to which even her quick response team had no answer).

10/29 Hannity interview: Without batting an eyelash, Mitt refered to Hillary as an "intern" ----that Americans don't want an "intern" in the Oval Office (in the context of someone w/ no practical experience).

LOL---Hillary an intern---nice allusion to Bill/Moanica scandal. Mitt is quite deft with a quip. Gotta love it.

Mitt debating Hillary---that we gotta see---would be memorable.

A long time ago I stated that Hillary would get pushed out and Richardson would be the democrat nominee.

Voter fraud (theft of gov't) should be a hangin' crime. Treason by a citizen - espionage by a foreigner.

Don’t start popping corks just yet. HitLIARY is slimy and as dangerous as ever.......

Plus the Clintons are VERY good at reinventing themselves----after her debating flop over illegals, Hitlery will probably renounce her American citizenship, move to Mexico, swim across the Rio Grande, and apply for a NY driver’s license.

Yes, and then a voice-over can say, "aren't you a Progressive, like Hilary?"

That is pretty good.

She has a LOT of baggage that hasn’t seen the light of day yet. No amount of debate preparation can help her.

I’m convinced ANY Republican can beat her, except maybe the spineless McCain. Her positions and Rudy’s positions are too similar for Rudy to be really effective against her, although Rudy is pretty good in a debate.

Thats possible (and might even be advisable), but it would be a really big negative to add to her already big negatives.

Don’t you just love the statement Hillary’s camp made the next day? She supports governors. Wow, she really cleared up her position on the illegal immigrant issue with that one. /sarc

How quickly we forget that the 9/11 Commission found that as many as 15 of the 19 hijackers were, in their words, potentially vulnerable to interception by border authorities. So why does this bill not address the 9/11 Commission's recommendation for a secure identification system? The 19 9/11 hijackers had 63 validly issued U.S. driver's licenses between them. What were they using that many for? They were moving around the country undetected and plotting and planning. In fact, as many as eight of them were even registered to vote. They then used those bogus licenses to board U.S. planes.

"They had 63 of these driver's licenses between them, for the 19 of them. And these identification documents gave these hijackers unfettered access to nearly everything they needed to plan and carry out their attacks on Washington, D.C. and on New York City. And the identification cards also allowed them to remain in the country with the appearance of legitimacy long after their visas had expired and their presence in the United States became illegal."

Cong, Ed Royce--December 7, 2004.
