The Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Mormons and a few other faiths have three things in common – they believe in Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God and that He died and was resurrected for our sins.

So what’s the problem?

The political pundits continue to try and make Mitt Romney’s religious beliefs a big issue as he runs for the Republican presidential nomination. Different denominations of Christianity are just that – different denominations – which means different worship practices of the same fundamental Christian beliefs.

Some people have commented that they cannot support Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon. When they are pressed to explain why that is objectionable, they stutter. Still others are skeptical of Mitt Romney based solely on hearsay or lack of knowledge about Mormons.

I mean there’s an exception for rape. An exception for generic “health.” (And guess who gets to define “health”?—that’s right, the abortionist).

How can a supposed 'true' church advocate the murder of the unborn for ANY reason, if anything if you believe in the 'healing' powers of Christ then any raped, incest-ed, or molested female can overcome the trauma thru 'forgiveness' not through the shedding of innocent blood. Sounds like the Mormon apostles could use another 'revelation' in this matter.

Oh, I'm sure they'll get a new revelation, when - and only when it politically expedient. Kinda like this post on another site regarding Mitts Mormonism and if it will effect his nomination:

Forget the underwear, Kolob, Jesus' bro Satan, temple oaths, Native Americans are Jews, the BoM is an actual history of the Americas, his contributions to the Jesus Mall, polygamy, golden plates, etc. If he's the nominee, then ONE issue alone will kill his run and that is Blacks and the priesthood. He was 31 years old when the ban was lifted in 1978. That means that for a good portion of his adult life he believed that Blacks were inferior. And he may still believe that he's more "valiant" because he's white and delightsome, unlike Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Arabs (incl. Muslims), and Native Americans.

It's still softball right now. When the big ammo kicks in he won't be able to explain this issue away. If he didn't believe that people of color were inferior during his adult life before the ban was lifted, then why did he remain a member? Why did he sustain countless leaders that held/hold that position? Why didn't he counsel members that this wasn't the case when he was a bishop and stake president? The voting public will equate these beliefs with that of a KKK. Especially after his opposition is done with him.

The Dems want Romney like the GOP wants Hillary. It'll be interesting if he gets the nod. But I don't see it happening.

Why, this is what's so fun. This male BYU prof, a convert to the faith, has taught these liberal tenets in plain sight (ya know, like ya have to teach students rather openly these days.) He then writes exactly about what he's teaching them, and what he has to overcome to teach these students these tenets. And again, all that is done in rather plain sight.

And then you and I, GF, get spoken ill of again because somehow we're the ones hiding a prof who does all this in rather plain sight. (I guess I'll henceforth call this prof the "Donkey in the Living Room")

I agree that Romney has a strategy that “might” work even as he fails to enter the top echelon of candidates in polls. I disagree that Hunter has no chance at the nomination. Hunter is the best candidate and the candidate who is most in sync with the public in terms of his positions. He is patriotic, for the war on terror AND for fair trade AND is on his first wife, after raising good kids, and is a Christian AND was for enforcing the border and figuring out how to do it before the rest of us noticed there was a problem. I would consider a bet on Hunter winning the nomination better than a bet on Romney because Romney is a Mormon and that makes it almost impossible for him to win.

You misunderstood the question. It wasn’t whether the particular Mormon beliefs were correct, or not. It was whether or not they differed from orthodox Protestant, Catholic, or Eastern Orthodox beliefs.

Obviously, they do. I think tracer misunderstood, too.

That said, I DO disagree with Mormon beliefs. Whether Mormons are Christian or not, I leave to God to decide. There are plenty of Baptists and Catholics and others that He will probably decide aren’t. But that’s His concern, not mine.

Thanks for your input, though. I will follow up on your links later, although I have had a number of discussions with Mormons in the past. In person, both with your missionaries and several co-workers over the years.

And if Mitt takes the R nomination, I will support him whole-heartedly, something I’m still deciding with Rudy.

Oh, by the way, I acquired a Book of Mormon long ago, and even read it. Although I don’t remember much about it anymore.

I acquired a Koran, also, and read it. It was a little scarier, so I remember some of it. It was also the most incredibly confused book that I ever recall reading.
