Inadequate answer. The special events of the Schiavo case establish the fact that the circumstances were extraordinary, and Thompson has no business being uninformed about it.
The family(s) were involved in it, but the two concerned families had differing views: the cheating husband wanted her dead, but her parents and brother were willing to do whatever would be required to maintain AND IMPROVE her life.
The judge - who had personal and financial ties to the hospice keeping her - refused to actually consider any evidence of conscious thought on her part. And ALL of the appeals were rejected, based on a review of legal procedures, never a new evaluation of evidence.
Today we know about at least two new developments concerning the so-called “vegetative state”. The first was the discovery that Ambien can - at least temporarily - restore some of these people to some level of coherent thought. Second, functional MRI can show what parts of a damaged brain are still working, and what stimuli cause these areas to respond. This offers a window into the damaged brain - a way for the owner to communicate back to the examiner.
Terri’s life was snatched away, based on the desire of her husband to rid himself of a burden, and the heartless decisions of a single judge. Any average murderer must be adjudged guilty by a unanimous decision of 12 jurors, after a vigorous defense by an expert advocate. Where were Terri’s other 11?
Justice was set aside for nothing more than convenience, and a life was sacrificed.
I'm sorry but I disagree with you. I think he means the family is the proper place for this decision to be made, and if there is a disagreement that it should be taken to the courts. I don't think he claimed to agree with any particular decision made by any particular judge. As we all know judges sometimes make what we would consider to be mistakes.We need to do everything possible to ensure that we have honest and competent judges, and then we need to let them make decisions...as provided for in our constitution.
Don’t overlook, “except for the court system”.

Even if that was the case, what right do the legislative and executive branches have in overturning or getting involved with a decision of the judicial branch?
I'm not familiar with the accountability of the judicial branch - maybe the judge can be impeached. If so, impeach him. In a representative republic, the people have to live with the consequences of their votes. If they don't like the judgment of a representative or judge, vote them out or impeach them afterwards, but you can't just arbitrarily get in the middle of or try to change the outcome of a particular case because of a whole lot of public outcry.
The media and activists turned this into a 'uber-Amber Alert' sob story and busybodies bought right into it.
Well, there’s one, but Hunter’s part of the Lone Ranger’s club, I think. There’s very few who any longer represent America or American interests, much less American Citizens.
She had no diseases and was not hooked up to machines. Her problem was that she was hooked to a devious, skirt chasin' abusive husband who would not divorce her for monetary reasons. It's alleged Terri became brain injured after she had an $80 hair appointment. She was considering divorce right before the incident that injured her.
My neighbor was one of Terri’s nurse at Palms in Largo. She was shocked that Terri was killed because she knew her very well.

Just PRAY this NEVER happens to you or someone you love. You have NO idea what this is like and how hard these decisions are for parents and/or spouses.
I will tell you this: my relatives husband curses the day that he revived her when he found her, clinically dead. (He’s a Fireman. He couldn’t NOT try to save her.)
Try living with that; bringing someone you love back to “life” only to sentence them to a living Hell.
Granted, each case is different, and I still think Mr. Schaivo is a total JERK who could’ve let Teri live because her parents very muchso wanted to care for her, but ‘til you’ve been there, it’s really hard to see the other side.
Again, I wouldn’t wish these decisions upon my worst enemy.

As you may know, those attorneys were Terri's parents' lawyers. She had no counsel or due process. Judge Greer STRETCHED it to say that he was her guardian. That's ILLEGAL too because for a Judge to be someone's guardian, they have to be RELATED.
Judge Greer broke so many laws, it's mind boggling but he was a big RNC party man. She was murdered by RNC brokers. It's disgusting. That's why the Terri question keeps coming up. RNC brokers let her die. We don't want to balance the budget by becoming a full fledged culture of death. At this point, there is a culture of death here in similar to jihadists. Their methods are different but the mission is to take innocent life.

No thanks. The last time I visited Florida was the LAST time I ever plan to go to Florida, though I have been invited by a friend who lives there....no way....not until/unless Florida decides to stop murdering innocents.
The difference is that Terry Schiavo's husband had moved on with his life, and was involved with another woman with whom he had two children. That hardly makes him the proper person to be making the decision anymore. If he was the long-suffering husband, sitting at her bedside everyday, then that claim would hold. But as someone who had moved on with his life, he should no longer have been the one to make the decision. So, in this case, her family - her parents, her siblings - were the ones that loved her, and should have been the ones to make the decision. Not her husband. He just wanted to see her dead. Judge Greer was complicit in helping him accomplish his goals - and they were Judge Greer's goals, too - for what liberal doesn't love death?
