WASHINGTON (AP) A House vote to label the century-old deaths of Armenians as genocide was in jeopardy Tuesday after several Democrats withdrew their support and sounded alarms it could cripple U.S. relations with Turkey.
The loss of support is a major setback to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, who have fiercely defended the resolution to Republicans and the Bush administration as a moral imperative in condemning the World War I-era killings of up to 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks.
President Bush called Pelosi on Tuesday to ask her not to call for a House vote on the resolution.
"The president and the speaker exchanged candid views on the subject and the speaker explained the strong bipartisan support in the House for the resolution," Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami said, noting that Bush initiated the phone call.

I propose an alternate resolution praising the Ottomans for the little stool on which we rest our feet while watching TV.
ROTFLMAO!!!
“And dont forget, they are the ones who are always worrying about our world reputation and how they are going to have to make friends around the world all over again when they get into the Whitehouse. Are they trying to make friends with Turkey? This way?”
Dubya should point that out during his presser today. Heh.
They were thinking ahead! That is, they plotted how they could usurp and poison foreign policy to cause more distrust and bad will with valuable US ally. They thought they could once again saddle the Bush administration with perceived consequential failures for they were actually responsible.
It's kind of the way Dems are trying to portray the Rush attack as tit-for-tat with the uproar about the NYT MoveOn.org ad, when the fact is, the Left was responsible for both actions. There's no tit-for-tat anywhere, just two totally out-of-bounds vicious attacks against patriotic Americans.
Dems certainly deserve zero credit for "becoming aware" of the negative affects on Turkey. They were simply caught red-handed executing their plan.
All these treasonous Dems need to be turned out at the next voting opportunity! Especially the Constitution-disregarding, 41 DemonRat Senators.

Just what would you expect from San Fran Nan and Wee Harry Vegas?
I strongly disagree that it failed. Most of the damage has already been done. This will just give the dims cover. What resolution?
How about a Bill to condemn the Spanish conquest of Peru in the middle ages?
Who the heck came up with this idea? Yes, it was a genocide, but why are we condemning it now?
Oh, that’s right, to hurt the USA.
Pelosi is determined to drive Congressional popularity ratings below the “impossible to hit” 10% approval level.
LOL!
{Don’t say it too loud!}
BINGO!
.. I thought Bill Clinton already apologized to the Armenians for the genocide.
It’s gone, there is already NOT a majority in the House in favor. The “Pelosi ploy” again fails to produce what her Marxist backers demand of her - she’s toast, she’s failed them again - and a good thing that is.
If I may connect some dots here in my convoluted mind: one wonders if there is any tie between these activities to undermine our troops (to ‘get at’ the President) and the attempt to add veterans to the ‘to be disarmed’ list. I suspect somewhere in certain black little hearts there is a realization that having trained troops back home, might provide a monkey wrench in the hope of installing feudal rule in the United States. Can’t have that—especially when those troops know who was attempting to leave them twisting in the wind.
Mrs. Pelosi is on the verge of becoming one of the most ineffective and insignificant House Speakers in US history.
And that’s a good thing. I shudder to imagine what it would be
like here if shedid get her agenda through Congress.
Second failure in the docket for today:
“On Thursday, the House of Representatives will vote on a measure to override President Bush’s veto of a massive government-subsidized health insurance entitlement expansion plan. I agree with the Democrats on one thing: This is indeed a “defining moment.”

When this starts, and I believe it will, it causes possible conflict for the Nato partners and I want to be sure that it is referred to with its proper name:
Pelosi's War

1994
April 24: United States President Bill Clinton issued a news release to commemorate the "tragedy" that befell the Armenians in 1915, yet he bowed to political pressure and refused to refer to it as "genocide", despite referring to the massacre as such before being elected president.
I'd suggest California.
I think it was the Japanese Parliament (or whatever their governing body is) that did/attempted this. IIRC, same results as this recent misguided dem attempt.
