Waxman Denies Investigation of Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer October 10, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) on Wednesday denied that he is conducting or ever planned to conduct a congressional investigation of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin and called on a conservative magazine to retract its report that he asked investigators to compile information on the popular conservative talk radio hosts.

"The American Spectator report about a congressional investigation into talk radio is completely false," Waxman, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a statement to Cybercast News Service. "There is no investigation."

Waxman was referring to a report Monday that he "has asked his investigative staff to begin compiling reports on Limbaugh, and fellow radio hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin based on transcripts from their shows" to build a case for bringing back the Fairness Doctrine.

When asked if there had been ideas or plans to compile reports on the talk radio hosts, a spokesman for Waxman said, "No, there were not."

In his statement, Waxman called on the Spectator to "immediately retract the item and apologize for the confusion its fictitious report has caused."

Limbaugh came under fire from Democrats recently when he used the term "phony soldiers" in setting up discussion about Jesse Macbeth, an anti-war activist who was sentenced to five months in prison for falsifying his military records.

But at least he doesn’t have to worry about yanking out his hair!
But he does have to worry about that “snoot full” cause his snoot takes a lot to fill!

I think Waxman got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and is trying to forestall any real implications into his behavior.

If this gets legs, might be time to get him out of Congress for that kind of fascism. We'll see.

http://www.house.gov/waxman/news_files/news_profiles_waxman_for_better_07_17_06.htm

Excerpt——”On this particular Tuesday, Brian Cohen is in his windowless warren, pulling together yet another report, this one on prescription costs for seniors in New York. Costco is beating the government’s new Medicare benefit by a long shot.

In his previous life, Cohen, 38, was an MIT scientist; here, he is the quintessential Waxman staffer. He could double his salary in the private sector. Instead, he works at a desk just big enough for a computer, a family picture and a banana. He says he does it because he believes he’s performing a public service.

Though most staff research is issued in the congressman’s name, this report will be released under the name of Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Democrat from New York; Waxman won’t be mentioned.

It is an idea the congressman came up with to expand his reach while in the minority. Any lawmaker in Congress can request a study tailor-made for a particular district. Waxman’s staff plugs in local figures; the same model can produce as many as 100 different analyses. Local newspapers usually pick them up and a spotlight is trained on an issue the White House or majority party prefers not to highlight. Cohen has done close to 1,000 of them.”——

Waxman was referring to a report Monday that he "has asked his investigative staff to begin compiling reports on Limbaugh, and fellow radio hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin based on transcripts from their shows"

Parsing his words, I suspect that the investigation is based on something else other than the transcripts from their shows. Maybe tapes. Or maybe it's just Limbaugh he's investigating. In any event, you can bet that Waxman's comment is a lie in some regard.

There's no question about what Waxman was trying to do; intimidate and gag Rush Limbaugh and other popular radio personalities who disagree with the Liberal line. Its no different from any socialist paradise IE; Venezuela.
Henry and Hugo think alike, eh ?

I like Rush’s comment: We should look at this the way the Dems always look at Pubbies — it’s not specifics of the particular allegation, but the charge itself.

Rush did not mention Rather’s “evidence” against W for his national guard service, but that and other examples are what he is talking about: Its not the evidence but the charge.

Well, it really depends on your definition of “investigate.” We’ll just get some think tank to print a “study” about how dangerous he is and use it to push the Fairness Doctrine. Then Nancy Pelosi can give a speech about how it’s “finally” time to crack down.

Just because Waxman isn’t doing it doesn’t mean it isn’t being done.

He lobbed it into The American Spectator court. Time to lob back at him with their sources.

What Waxman is accused of is an abuse of power. Time to get him under oath.
