It hasn't gotten much comment yet, but in his interview on Fox last night, Fred Thompson rather emphatically told Focus on the Family chief James Dobson to take a hike. Host Sean Hannity asked Thompson about Dobson, who has attacked Thompson and made it clear he would not support a Thompson candidacy. "Don't read too much into the Dobson thing," Thompson told Hannity, continuing:
A gentleman who has never met me, who has never talked to me, I've never talked to him on the phone. I did have one of his aides call me up and kind of apologize, the first time he attacked me and said I wasn't a Christian
I don't know the gentleman. I do know that I have a lot of people who are of strong faith and are involved in the same organizations that he is in, that I've met with, Jeri and I both have met with, and I like to think that we have some strong friendships and support there
Hannity then asked: "Would you want to have a conversation with Dr. Dobson? Do you think that might help?"
I have no idea. I don't particularly care to have a conversation with him. If he wants to call up and apologize again, that's ok with me. But I'm not going to dance to anybody's tune.
exactly. if Dr. Dobson wanted this to go away, he could make it happen. he is allowing his questioning of Fred Thompson’s faith to stand, by not addressing it further. and the flirting with Gingrich and/or the Constitution party added to the mix, makes it even more questionable.
I value your questions and concerns...
..and your gracious response.
Indeed, a long way to go....
..later....that nap is really calling to me :))
Blowing Dobson off isn't the same as disenfranchising or disconnecting from Christians. Thompson hasn't said or done one single anti-Christian thing, AFAIK. He simply has an issue with Dobson.
Theo, you’ve been refuted in post #78. It’s time for an acknowledgement.
Yes, or else he won't support them. We all do the same thing.
I would vote for Fred, but would have to hold my nose if it came to Rudy.
your link proved to be interesting.

Lets take a look...
“Dr. Dobson told Mr. Gilgoff he had never met Sen. Thompson and wasnt certain that his understanding of the former senators religious convictions was accurate.”
That makes me ask what his understanding was. I think it was that assertion that questioned the veracity of Thompsons Christianity.
It was this paragraph that I find even more interesting.
(To those that say Thompson didnt reach out to Dobson)
“It may be of interest to know that Dr. Dobson received a cordial e-mail this morning from Fred Thompson. The former senator said that he was surprised initially upon reading the article by Dan Gilgoff, but then concluded that Dr. Dobson’s remarks had been grossly misrepresented. He urged Dr. Dobson to dismiss the matter and added that he intended doing the same.”
That leads me to a question of ...did Dobson reply if there was such an email?
And why then the recent published Dobson email about Thompson?
To me it doesnt matter. What Dobson thinks wont affect who I vote for.
To some here though apparently it does.
Thank you for that link. In light of the phony controversy over what Rush Limbaugh said (or didn’t say) about phony soldiers, we must be extremely careful, and make ABSOLUTELY sure we have the facts before we condemn what someone says.
Ditto!
Guenny, please read donnab’s post here about Fred emailing Dr. Dobson.
Read the links of Focus' disclaimer to a liberal presses characterizations of what he said! Exactly what they did to Rush...duh

Why are you ignorantly supporting the main stream demons?

Third parties have only ever split the votes of whatever party they spring from.
The republicans were a third party when they formed and did not win the presidency the first time around. They gained ascendancy over a period of years by actively winning over converts to their side regardless of whether it was a presidential election year or not. They had a hotbutton issue to do that with — slavery. They spent even the off years bringing people into the party by actively pursuing and keeping their key issues in front of the public and selling them. These days 3rd parties only actively do anything in a presidential election year which is too little too late. A third party split from the GOP would be the hildebeeste’s fondest dream.
If youre a Christian, then you are (to use Jesus words) born again. If you are not born again, then you are not a Christian
________
You know darn well that the term ‘born again’ means a lot more than what you posit above.
“I wish Fred were a better Christian. But frankly, I still prefer him to any of the Rudy McRomney weak sisters.
Of course, Duncan Hunter is still my man...”

Good for you.
My late mother, a devout Catholic, always voted for the candidates endorsed by the local Catholic diocese. Every election, the local Catholic paper would publish a list of approved candidates, and Mom would dutifully take that list with her to the polls and vote the way the church said she should.
I’m not knocking the notion that one should elect the candidate with fine moral character. Trouble is that (a) you would be hard pressed to find one nowadays; and (b) even if he demonstrated good Christian values, he might do something else such as raise your taxes, pull our troops out of Iraq, or get behind some bloated government program like that SCHIP thing the President vetoed. He might be a good Christian technically, but by the time he and his colleagues are done spending your hard earned tax dollars or putting our country at risk of attack by godless terrorists, you and your family will be in ruins.
He doesn’t tell them what to do, but we revere, respect and support him across the board.
_________
How far does “support him across the board” go? Would you not vote for someone Dobson disapproves of for the simple reason that Dobson does not approve? Not calling you out, just asking?
