how come the Dems can’t change their view on winning the war? You cannot understand ANYTHING they do, until you understand that the war is not their first priority. They're political animals, whose first instinct is always to achieve political victory in whatever election is coming up next.
Bush and the Republicans are generally supportive of the war. Thus, politically, the Democrats must oppose it.
Seriously -- their rational just that cynical and banal.

Yes, they are desperate to attack and discredit Crocker’s testimony, and it is easier to get away with that than with attacking a 4-star General, so we can expect to see Crocker slimed all over the place.
