In a press release issued, former Governor Mike Huckabee took issue with the Tancredo campaign's characterization of him as a pro-amnesty politician. Unfortunately for the Governor, the facts support the label.
Fact #1. As Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee denounced an immigration bill (Arkansas Senate Bill 206) that "would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and would have required state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally."
(Doug Thompson, "Immigration Bill un-christian..governor says"Arkansas News Bureau 1/28/05)
Fact #2. As Governor, Mike Huckabee offered a proposal to give state funded scholarships and state benefits to illegal aliens.
(Laura Kellams, "Huckabee Plan would give aid to illegal aliens" Arkansas Democrat Gazette 1/12/2005)
Fact #3. Governor Huckabee supported a Bush-backed immigration plan that provides a path to citizenship for some illegal aliens.
(CNN 2008 Election Center, http://edition.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/candidates/mike.huckabee.html)
Fact #4. Governor Huckabee refuses to sign the "No Amnesty Pledge".
The Governor is suffering from what is called "amnesty amnesia". It is a contagious ailment spreading rapidly through the ranks of the Republican presidential candidates.
Watch Huckabee admit to selling out our citizenship to illegal aliens. He thinks it's not amnesty, but illegal aliens still get the grand prize: citizenship.

Stick a Fork in Him! He’s done!
As George Burns might have said: “Say Goodnight Huckabee.”
God Bless the Internet!
I remember Huckabee supporting amnesty, that is when I wrote him off.
The same media that can not understand why conservatives do not want McCain keep saying this clown is a contender for V.P.
I would have thought that anyone giving consideration to a run for higher office would have considered how the citizens felt about illegal immigration before supporting the “right to vote” for illegal aliens.
Huck’s switch tells me all I need to know about him.
Just another contemptible politician.
Sickening.
I think amnesty can work.
Give them 30 days to get out!
Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Wednesday the nation is being given a chance to make up for past racism by the way it handles the influx of Hispanics.
Huckabee, a Republican who is considering a run for president in 2008, said Arkansas has made progress on racial justice and has a fresh opportunity to do the right thing in the way it welcomes the growing Hispanic population.

Maybe his secretary forgot to tell him?
So to Heck with the IIRA, eh Huckabee?
From this link...
In-State Tuition for Undocumented Students in Utah
Section 505 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) states that An alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State for any postsecondary benefit unless a citizen or nation of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident. Section 401 of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) states that an alien who is not a qualified alien [i.e., not a lawful permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or aslyee or alien lawfully present in the U.S. under two other laws] is not eligible for any public benefit However, supporters of these laws argue that the IIRIRA and the PRWORA do not prevent or prohibit a state from granting in-state tuition to undocumented students.
Guess we know where Huckabee stands, don't we?
He sounded good on the fence, then drifted off into the amnesty is not an amnesty downward sprialing black hole of has been Republican candidates.
I like Mike, but this is unacceptable to me.
These guys are going to have to get with the program or retire. That’s it in a nutshell. I don’t want him anywhere near the White House if he can’t understand this issue.

Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you," Huckabee said, citing the Golden Rule. "I have tried to govern that way and it stands to reason that I really do believe that... |
Ping.
I saw Huckabee preach at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis during the late Dr. Rogers illness. He is one slick talker.
He'd be disingenuous if he said otherwise. sw

But based on his attitudes, he is not a follower of the Christ.

However, it does not reflect especially well on Tancredo when his organization issues a news release/campaign statement with an awkward and amateurish lead sentence.
I wonder if Gov Huckabee can truthfully say that he would build a fence and deport the illegals?
I doubt it. Isn’t it amazing that back in the times of Hoover and Eisenhower illegals were deported; probabaly at a fraction of the cost. Of course, today, we have all kinds of techinology at our fingertips. No more lying by our goverment, business, dimwits, etc. This can be done and it will be done.
We Americans can not understand why Mexicans can not clean up their own country? This is the sign of cowards with no backbones.
