These debates are good for getting the candidates a little face time in front of the people who don’t bother to read the entirety of the candidates’ positions. If it weren’t for these debates the media would feel free to completely ignore candidates who aren’t Rudy McThomney, and no one except hardcore supporters would know the so-called “second-tier” candidates or their positions at all.
Brownback's zeal for the traditional family sounds to me like what psychologists call a "reaction formation."
