NEW YORK -- Whoopi Goldberg started her stint on ABC's "The View" Tuesday by coming to the defense of convicted felon Michael Vick.
Just 15 minutes into the show she brought up Vick's conviction on dogfighting charges.
"You know from his background this is not an unusual thing for where he comes from," said Goldberg.
"There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country."
Co-host Joy Behar seemed shocked at Goldberg's statements.
"How about dog torture and dog murdering," Behar asked.

“The dogs never asked to be a part of any fight.”
One could make an argument that these dogs (and roosters for that matter) were breed to be fighters and willingly consent to do so when given the opportunity.
Wonder why even a lib liked Danson would throw the hotdog down that “hall” more than once???
Surely he’s lying, that ugly girl must have something going for her not normally observable to the masses.
Exactly. If you have a problem dog you do what has to be done by putting it down as quickly and painlessly as possible. To do otherwise indicates a sick, sadistic and twisted mentality.
Thats simply not true, I am sure Whoopi sides with those who agree with “hunting of gun ownership” they hunt gun owners all the timne where she is from
You and I have a vastly different idea of "funny" then. I vaguely remember seeing her stand up routine and thinking "what dreck"
A competitive martial art, like kickboxing or wrestling. Wrestlers just happen to be smarter....
Whoopi is on the show already? So Democrat party officials can get out there calculators and figure out how much more free advertising they are getting from ABC and the other networks. The Dems probably save countless billions thanks to their “entertainment” media flunkies.
Doesnt change the fact that once upon a time she was very good as a stand up comedian.

Maybe, no way to know for sure.
What we do know is your memory is lacking on this topic.
Mine isn’t, I still have all the HBO series on comedians from that era on tape somewhere.
...”even in a sport as cruel as dogfighting, Vicks behavior was beyond the norms within the sport.”...
Sport???? Are you kidding or not? Norms??? Truly we are beyond “norms” here, are we not? Your use of the term “sport” with dogfighting suggests to me that you condone it.
Boxing is a martial art form involving human opponents pitted against each other's boxing skill.
lets qualify thats shes from the city bubba - out here on the western side of the state there are plenty of dairy cow, apple orchards and wineries....heck - we even shoot deer when were not shootin each other because of our "culture"
fyi - we honeymooned in Arkansas in 86 at Petit Jean ...touring the caverns at Blanchard Springs....my gumbo is better
I guess we'll find out if anyone besides Nike has a spine.
lol...
But what does that mean?!
Seriously - what does it mean?
You take a very high minded and fairly modern view of sport. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, sport was not something associated with gentleman. A sporting man was a man, who drank, gambled, and associated with prostitutes. And when he gambled chances are it was on blood sports such as dogfighting and cockfighting. Sports has taken on virtutes that I am not sure it deserves, just as journalism has taken on virtues that it certainly does not deserve. The celebrity that surrounds sports and journalism today may elevate those pursuits in the minds of some. Blood sport may not be a pure a sport, but it is sport, and sport in general cannot deny its unpleasant ancestry.
I do not condone history, I simply acknowlege it. Read post 95.
Forget the cultural aspect of dogfighting, which Whoops uses solely as a race card.
Take a dog and string it up in a tree. Hose it down with water and then electrocute it. That is what Michael Vick did to at least one of those dogs.
Goldberg is a moron.
I agree with you. The para below is from “A message from Jack Dempsey” in the instruction sheet from the Jack Dempsey EVERLAST boxing gloves I got about 45 years ago...
“Boxing is fun!...Box with your friends. Box with your Dad...Be a better sportsmen and you’ll be a better American.”
Yeah but duz youse guyz out in da west paht a da state talks like dis? Duz youse guyz call yaselfs Noo Yawkiz? I don’t tink so. Fahgeddaboudet.
