Special Forces soldiers cleared in Afghan killing

Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Csrnko has dismissed all charges against two Fort Bragg Special Forces who killed an enemy combatant who was under the control of friendly forces in Afghanistan.
Capt. Dave Staffel and Master Sgt. Troy Anderson were accused of premeditated murder in the shooting of Nawab Buntangyar on Oct. 13, 2006, at the village of Ster Kalay near the Pakistan border.
Witnesses at an Article 32 hearing held to determine whether the soldiers should be court-martialed testified that Nawab was identified as an enemy who was involved with suicide bombers and posed a threat. The man was within blast range of the soldiers. Several witnesses testified that they had little confidence in the competence of the Afghans working with the Special Forces soldiers who were supposed to have control over the man.

A key suspect in the alleged plot to mount an attack in Germany on the scale of 9/11 is on the run in Britain, German security officials disclosed yesterday.
Scotland Yard counterterrorism detectives are hunting the man, who escaped from Germany after a plot to explode bombs at Frankfurt airport and a US airbase. The collective power of the bombs would have exceeded those in Madrid and London in 2004 and 2005. The plot was foiled on September 4 when three men were arrested at a rented holiday apartment near the central German town of Kassel. Police recovered chemicals and bomb-making equipment which investigators believe would have led to the biggest loss of life since the 9/11 attacks in America six years ago.
About 10 other members of the gang were said by German prosecutors to have escaped and one is now in Britain. The arrested three - two of whom were German nationals who had converted to Islam - were alleged by prosecutors to be members of an Al-Qaeda splinter group called the Islamic Jihad Union.

On Sunday, October 14, 2007, Six Flags Over Texas, a Dallas-area amusement park, will be invaded by a radical Muslim organization that has physical ties with the Muslim Brotherhood and financial ties to Hamas. While most patrons of the park come for the games and rides, those involved with this group's event, Muslim Family Day, may very well have found an original and appealing way to spread anti-Western hatred.
The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), an umbrella organization for South Asian-oriented mosques and Islamic centers throughout the United States and Canada, has been in existence for over three decades. Those that founded it had done so in order to create an American arm for the Muslim Brotherhood of Pakistan, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and never has ICNA relinquished that connection. Indeed, just one year ago, ICNA was the top donor of a JI charity, the Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF), that provided tens of thousands of dollars to the head of Hamas, Khaled Mashaal.
Apart from its working relationship with terrorists abroad, ICNA does an exceptional job of portraying itself as "mainstream." The group runs annual functions, in a number of cities, that are presented as family entertainment. The same will be the case, next month, when members of ICNA embark on Arlington, Texas, at Six Flags Over Dallas, for their Muslim Family Day.
Co-sponsoring the day is the Islamic Association of North Texas (IANT) a.k.a. the Dallas Central Mosque. IANT has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the legal defense of Hamas operative Ghassan Elashi and his four brothers, one of which was on the mosque's board. The Elashis have been tied to a Hamas financing ring, which included an internet company, InfoCom Corporation, and an Islamic charity, Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF). A Dallas trial regarding the Elashis and HLF, which began in July, is currently in its closing stages.
The upcoming event will feature prayer sessions at the Music Mill Theatre, halal food vendors, and Islamic organization tables offering the latest in extremist propaganda. As well, drawing parallels to Hamas TV's late Mickey Mouse look-alike, Farfur, Muslim Family Day will offer a Bugs Bunny and Friends parade. This is not the first time ICNA has used Six Flags to spread its message. The group holds yearly events at Six Flags' Great Adventure in New Jersey, the most recent of which took place in September of 2006. While many would consider it a harmless gesture for an organization to rent out an amusement park, with regard to ICNA, nothing is harmless.
As stated previously, ICNA was found to have been a recent donor to Hamas. However, ICNA has also been involved in the financing of Al-Qaeda. Shortly before (and after) the attacks on 9/11, ICNA's Southeast division called on its website viewers to give "material support" to their brethren in Chechnya. Attached to this call was a link to one of the main websites raising funds and recruiting fighters for Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. The site, Jihad in Chechnya, was produced by Azzam Publications, named for the mentor of Osama bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam. Additionally, one of the individuals involved in the creation of the website, Mazen Mokhtar, who has since been indicted on charges of tax fraud, was a featured speaker at different ICNA and ICNA-affiliate events.

A suicide bomber wearing an Afghan army uniform detonated a huge explosion early Saturday while trying to board a military bus, killing 27 soldiers from the Afghan National Army (ANA) and injuring 21 others in western Kabul, media reported Sunday.
The bombing was one of the deadliest in the country this year and no one has claimed responsibility for it. The blast was so powerful that it ripped off the roof of the bus and tore out its sides, catapulted a huge piece of the vehicle into a park across the street and shattered windows in shops and homes throughout the neighborhood. "For 10 or 15 seconds, it was like an atom bomb -- fire, smoke and dust everywhere," said a police officer who witnessed the explosion.

Egypt lets Hamas militants return to Gaza
09.30.07
More than 80 Palestinian militants who had been stranded in Egypt since Hamas seized Gaza in June returned to the territory on Sunday, witnesses said. A senior Hamas figure is said to be among them.
Hamas sources said that the Popular Resistance Committees, a Gaza-based militant group, took part in talks with Egypt on temporarily reopening Rafah. There was no immediate comment from Cairo. Any softening of Egypt's policy toward Hamas would likely anger Abbas and the United States.

The imam of a Syrian mosque who repeatedly called for holy war against US forces was shot dead after Friday prayers, witnesses and medical sources said. Mahmud Gul Aghassi, also known as Abu Al-Qaaqaa, was killed by a gunman who stepped from a car and opened fire with an automatic weapon outside his mosque in the northern city of Aleppo, witnesses said.
The preacher was hit in the head and stomach and died some hours later in Aleppo's al Shaaba hospital, according to a medical source at the hospital. Three people with him were wounded in the attack. Witnesses said one of his attackers was detained by the imam's followers.
Al-Qaaqaa was known for his anti-American views and recordings calling for holy war against US forces, and had set up a group which recruited young men to fight coalition forces in Iraq. He had recently fallen foul of fellow jihadists, however, for allegedly colluding with the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad, and several extremist websites had called for his assassination.

Pakistan shuts private news channels
Sept 29, 2007
Authorities in Pakistan on Saturday temporarily suspended transmission of independent news TV channels to stop coverage of opposition rallies against President's bid for re-elections, private TV channels and subscribers said.
Police fired tear gas shells and beat protesting lawyers and political activists who staged demonstrations in Islamabad to protest against President Musharraf. Protest rallies were planned outside the office of the Chief Election Commissioner, who held scrutiny of the nomination papers of President Musharraf and his rival candidates. Major private TV channels were showing live pictures of injured lawyers with blood on their heads and faces.
Police severely beating and arresting senior lawyers and opposition activists and firing tear gas shells were also aired live on TV channels. Only those people could watch TV channels who had facility of satellite dish receiver. Three major TV channels Geo, ARY and Aaj TV said their transmissions went off the air in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of the country. The state-run Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMA) had warned all TV channels not to air programs, talk shows and interviews in which comments are offered on courts matters.

Yes.
It was a good overview, I thought.
YouTube is an accurate reflection of our society in general,
in my opinion.
I can almost hear Mae West talking about the really good
and the “very, very bad.”

“Eugene Airport back open after bomb scare”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “They call it a suspicious device, and when it was found in a piece of checked luggage, they evacuated the Eugene Airport Thursday morning. Now, were asking the question: why was the suspect allowed to fly to Denver, while his luggage stayed behind in Eugene?”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “As for the man whose luggage caused the stir in the first place, he was already on a flight to Denver, FBI agents there stopped the plane away from the terminal to be safe, searched it, and took the suspect off the plane for questioning.
He was later released and sent on to his final destination of Paris, France.
TSA officials tell me that, since that man and all other passengers had made it through security, they were confident the flight was safe. Thats why they let it continue to Denver while the bag was left behind.”
