True - that's why I said "most of South America." The thought of Portugal as an international contender kind of boggles the modern mind, doesn't it ...
Other languages in Central and South America (you forgot Arabic, among others) were brought by immigrants into a Spanish-speaking majority. Why, that seems rather familiar.

Reality. Something that you do not get from the China worshipers around here. China has reached a tipping point and the contaminated product issue is helping to push them over. You can not sell something if no one will buy because they fear it will harm them.

I heard the same thing from people twenty years ago about the USSR and friends. Everything old is new again. It wasn't true then and it isn't true now.

Truth is most of the China worshipers don't love China, they just hate their fellow citizens.

I agree, and this is not the first such story. I remember several stories of white kids suggesting that they begin a white heritage club, or white history month. They see so many other groups asking for and getting some special recognition of their heritage and it’s pretty logical to ask: why don’t we white kids have a club?
And, the guilt-ridden, probably self-hating white liberals are the last people on earth we need addressing these concerns, but they are most likely the ones in education.
There weren’t any clowns chanting “white flour” in the area, were there?

Yes, and the language laws apply even in places like Medicine Hat and Regina, where you are as likely to meet someone speaking Esperanto as speaking French.

I had 4 years of high school/college French but that’s fading from disuse now.

I blame history teachers for making it so deadly dull
When I have traveled to France, I have found that my knowledge of Spanish is very helpful when reading, but useless when speaking.
Money to China is like waving catnip in front of a cat. They’ll regroup and come back stronger. They like $$$ and willing to work for it.
India is another country to watch - they’ve got a good future - Hindi is a language to also learn.
I should probably pick up the basics, like Spanish, Russian, Italian, Chinese, and French.
... that’s a lot of basics =/
I should throw in Arabic, too.
