Craig to Hold Press Conference: Will He Resign? [2pm MDT]
ABC News ^ | August 28, 2007

His future in doubt, with allies denouncing his behavior and former staffers voicing disbelief at his arrest, Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, is expected to hold a press conference this afternoon that may answer questions about his political future.

Long dogged by rumors about his sexuality, the married and conservative three-term senator is expected to address the June 11 incident at Minneapolis Airport in which an undercover officer arrested him on charges of lewd conduct in a men's room.

Craig will give a statement this afternoon concerning his arrest at 2 p.m. Mountain Time in downtown Boise, a spokesman said. Craig's staff said he would not take questions.

there is nothing there that makes out any proof of solitictation to engage in sex.

He swore that he was guilty in a court. Are you saying he perjured himself?

You can read the police report online (Try Captain’s quarters for one) and there is nothing there that makes out any proof of solitictation to engage in sex. Nothing.

Then why did he cop a plea? If it were you-would you have if you knew you were innocent or would you fight it with every fiber of your being?

Then why did he cop a plea?

He managed to keep this quiet for months, although I'm still surprised he thought he could get away with it.

Curious. The big news this morning was suspected Hillary campaign irregularities. Craig’s “news” has totally bumped that issue. If he is guilty, he should quit but how is it that this comes up months later.”

I hadn’t thought of that. Interesting indeed.

Here is what Craig and Gonzales have been PROVEN doing:

GONZALES - Firing US Attorney's that serve at his behest

CRAIG - Tapping foot outside men's restroom.

Neither one is an earth-shattering felony.

Hate to disappoint you guys, but Craig was never proven to have "gay sex" and Gonzales was never proven to have "obstructed justice and destroyed evidence". Those are merely attacks on TV coming from their detractors without a shred of evidence.

>> Then either the policeman is lying or Craig is lying. An investigation could propably find out who’s lying. If the policeman lied he should go to jail. If Craig lied, he should resign. <<

Correct. I agree that if I strong case can be made that Craig lied, he needs to resign. And in Alberto's case, either FBI director Robert Mueller is lying, or Alberto was lying. I tend to believe Alberto was lying. I don't know why he lied, since it would have been alot easier just to say "YES, I ordered their firings because I didn't agree with their policies, and I have the legal right to do so". Instead, if Alberto is lying we can safely say he committed perjury when he claimed not to know about the U.S. Attorney's history when he agreed to fire them.

If Alberto lied, he should have resigned.

Too bad some freepers have already set the bar as "if you have an "R" next your name, you deserve to stay in office forever just so we can piss off the Dems"

Hey, they made the rule that "we CANNOT let the Dems have another scalp, no matter how bad our guy is". I'm just reminding them of it.

Kinda reminds me of the blindly loyality OJ got because he was "african-american", without regard of whether he killed someone or not.

I will not ignore that behavior nor should Christian conservatives of Idaho.

I know and they aren't ignoring it. Most I have talked to have already asked him to resign. I am just torn because I'm not 100% sure he wasn't being stalked and harrassed as he says. Remember, I know him personally. Remember I've experienced personally liberal Idaho newspapers slandering.

Keep in mind Larry Craig has been a very dependable conservative voter for many years. If he was a homo, why would he be so very unshakable conservative all these years?

And these homos have been trying to bring him down so rabidly.

I believed it, now I am having my doubts.

Larry Craig regarding Clinton:

I will tell you that the Senate certainly can bring about a censure reslution and it's a slap on the wrist. It's a, "Bad boy, Bill Clinton. You're a naughty boy." The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy, a naughty boy.

I'm going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy.

Sadly he won’t resign. He will do what hurts himself and
more importantly the GOP by keeping this on the front page.

Where have you been? Back when Foley was outed there were rumors about Craig. Get with the program He plead guilty because he just wanted it to go away. The ONLY reason not to fight it is if you WERE doing what was charged. Do not be so naive. The reason we have these losers on our side is because of naive people who can be conned.

He took a misdeamnor plea on disorderly conduct to avoid hassle..but from the police report there isn’t even evidence of that.

I won't deny that those people exist, but they are counter-balanced by the others here who spend more time working to decrease the number of Republicans in Congress, instead of increasing it. So it all evens out.

This conspiracy theory makes more sense than the idea that a police officer was stationed in every public restroom in a city a Senator was traveling through in the hopes of entrapping him for political reasons. Anyone know what news outlet broke the story and how they got the info? I could definitely see opposition research in the Clinton campaign holding this card to wipe out a damaging story about Hillary. The Hillary payments by China is much, much more important and serious news.

False allegations dogged J. Edgar Hoover’s ghost for years after his death.

That turned out to be part of a “discredit Hoover” KGB disinformation campaign, later adopted by liberals.

If the cop really didn’t know who Craig is and the cop is right about what happened, than Craig really is a toilet troll. Craig probably is.

I have been reading what you have typed. I tend to stand back a little and just say, wait a minute and let’s see what the truth is going to be. Billy Graham was never ever alone with a women anywhere just because there are and have always been people who want to destroy others for one reason or another. In this political war we are in, I don’t put anything past the left. Remember when Larry Flynt said he would pay 1 million to anyone who could say they had had sex with a republican?

Give it up. No one is left on FR to repeat the b------- we heard last week on this forum that someone deserves to stay in office because they have an "R" next to their name and we "can't afford" to let the Dems cheer on their departure.

That WAS the talking point last week on FR, was it not? Would you like to be post direct quotes reminding you of that?

You guys break your own "rules" within a week.

Reminds me all the freepres who claim to oppose Romney and Giuluiani because "we can't trust ANY Republican from New England", then they show up at an Ann Coulter event and blindly worship everything she says and does.

Petty. Real petty.

I am not sure the so-called evidence that the lying left has drummed up is enought convince me.

I believed it up until hearing his press conference.

Now I am willing to believe it was the lying leftist liars who want to take him down because he has stood his ground against them for years.

Even if he is guilty, I appreciate the good he has been.
