Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......
Prayers for your friends. We’ll have plenty of time after rescue efforts to start the blame game.
Let’s show our best face tonight, FRiends.
btt
Is St. Thomas University near that area?
We have pot holes in the winter and spring and exploding roadways in the summer.
Them’s the facts.
MSNBC and CNN are both calmer than Fox; I’d say MSNBC sounds the most professional at this point.
IF CONGRESS AND BUSH FOUGHT THE WAR ON TERROR THE WAY IT SHOULD BE FOUGHT....we would all come to the conclusion that this was structural.
My Dad had to get out of the city before he could get a good cell.
He is always everywhere in the city so I called him immediately when I got home and saw the TV.
I drove it too after the collapse. Pretty scary to look over and see that span gone. The new bridge is much less “nerve racking” than the old one.
How do they know? Did they invent star trek level scanners while no one was looking?
IOW - it’s just a little early to rule out any cause.
“exploding roadways in the summer”
How many are killed by exploding roadways each year?
I read in other posts that Keith Olbermann on MSNBC was doing a good job. I switched channels and he indeed is reporting calmly and intelligently.
Prayers up...
I crossed that bridge when I was in Minneapolis last year. Scary to think about.
Think there will be a I-35 Truthers.com tomorrow?
Hate to say it, but Olbermann is a far better disaster reporter than Shep ever thought about being.
Prayers up. I am watching now, it is horrible.
Prayers up for the father and daughter. Communications are tied up right now. They are probably trying to call home.
Remember, everyone, to pray for all the rescuers as well as the victims. The Police, FD, EMT’s and paramedics, and all the ER workers—they’re going to see a lot of sad sights this evening and well into tomorrow.
Lord, God, be with all the people of Minneapolis tonight. Give your angels watch over them. Let those who are still alive be found and rescued before morning dawns. Amen.
On Channel 4, a spokesperson for HCMC says they have 16 injuries in the hospital.
Would not comment on fatalities nor whether other hospitals had injuries.
St. Thomas is in St. Paul - closer to 35E instead of 35W. My sister takes this bridge every day but I’ve just heard she’s safe.
