The Minnesota Twins have postponed Thursday’s game against Kansas City following a bridge collapse near the Metrodome and team president Dave St. Peter said their weekend series with Cleveland also could be affected.
The Twins also postponed Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the team’s new stadium, which will be located downtown.
Twins officials decided to play Wednesday night’s game after conferring with department of public safety officials. It was decided that sending 20,000-25,000 people back into traffic could hinder rescue efforts.
Yes, I was a junior when it happened. Imagine the fear we felt as we had to cross over the Shadle Bridge the first day back to school and we could look over and see just the piers left of the Silver Bridge.
If this is terrorism I will date a girl from DU. So in other words this isn’t terrorism and I am not going to date a girl from DU.
And then there is Gasoline, Diesel Fuel and fertilizer. Seen any tractor trailers burning?
Oakland Bay Bridge in San Francisco
No, I missed that.
about a 1/3 of a mile thats a long strip of road...
Terror, or not...
$$$ are needed to keep our infrastructures updated, but the politicians are often so busy fighting over how much they get to keep in their districts and/or pockets that the money doesn’t go where it should. Sometimes they fight over who has to pay for the upkeep and sometimes a bridge failure is an accident and “just one of those things.”
Lawyers swarming? Absolutely!
The Tappan Zee will be in the water within 10 years, IMHO, if they don’t do something. It wasn’t built to be used this long or to carry as much traffic (often bumper-to-bumper, both ways) as it does. The Throgs Neck isn’t looking too hot either at the moment...and as I live on Long Island, I take both those bridges fairly regularly, holding my breath all the way. Perhaps the only good to come out of a tragedy like this is that other cities will wake up to their aging infrastructure...
We are about to see a whole lot of CYA.
Bridge was about 64 feet above ground/river. Don’t know about the river.
2-2 in the sixth......
You are safe and will be able to date a nice smelling woman!
Surely never.
Do you enjoy seeing "text-speak" on a message board? A serious one like FR?
I think it cheapens the site.
Anyway, this whole issue is off-topic and has no place on this thread.
We were talking about the Tampa Bay bridge collapse.
I think this bridge is about 80 years old.
My point was that they ARE doing just that. However, they are NOT informing us of just that. You however feel the need to convey the companies public line. Fine. It is a free country.
‘Buckling’ could look like ‘blowing up’ or ‘blowing down’ depending on your vantage point.
