2008 and counting: Please jump in, say Fredheads in frustration
The Hill ^ | 719/07 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 07/18/2007 7:37:56 PM PDT by Jean S

FredHead.com , one of the many websites encouraging former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) to join the presidential race, is growing tired of waiting.

The site’s home page currently asks, “What’s the holdup?”

“Fred Thompson enjoys an unprecedented groundswell of grassroots support,” the page reads. “Fredheads believe in his potential. Fredheads know he can very well be the next president of the United States. This support should be nurtured, not pushed aside and asked to stand-by forever.

“The time has come. Enough with the ambiguities. Enough with those around you being more decisive than you are.”
Keith Harper, a software engineer, the website’s owner and a self-described Fredhead, said there is some frustration among Thompson’s grassroots supporters.

Harper, who lives in Chattanooga, Tenn., said a lot of supporters were expecting an announcement on July 4. Harper told The Hill that he doesn’t want to second-guess professional political operatives, but he is concerned Thompson might be missing his best window to get in.

“I don’t want to see him lose that momentum,” Harper said.

Harper added that he started the site so Thompson supporters would have a place to meet and discuss the candidacy, and backers from across the country have logged on to do just that. Of course, right now they don’t have an official candidacy to discuss.

As for Thompson’s timing, Harper clearly seems to think sooner is better than later.

“Let’s hear it, Fred,” Harper wrote on his website. “Take your hat off and throw it into the ring.”

Thompson’s spokesmen did not comment.

This is called marching without appearing to move.
Rolling up your sleeves without showing your arm.
Capturing the enemy without attacking.
Being armed without weapons.

As long as he's in by the filing deadline, who cares?

Go away Fred Thompson, we don't want you to run!

(reverse psychology, maybe that will do the trick, LOL)

Exactly. Only date that counts.

It’s like those idiots sitting outside a store at Christmas, It still opens at 9:00.

I'm tired of waiting for Fred to announce also, but what we need to remember is that most Freepers are political junkies who are staying on top of the news in a manner your average person isn't. Some of us are tired of waiting for Fred because we read so much more news than the average person, and we've followed the "when's Fred going to announce" game longer than your average person out there.

Those people who aren't political junkies are probably the ones Fred's got to worry about re his timing of the announcement. People who follow sites like FR, blogs, news aggregators, etc., are not the majority. Your average person who follows the news somewhat has just recently started hearing his name. We might get frustrated waiting, but he knows that the news junkies will be there when he does announce...eventually.

Whether it was by accident or by design, it is a very good idea for Thompson to hold off on declaring.

The best reason is that as soon as he announces, he will be severely restricted in his funding, and will have to obey all sorts of federal rules. He will have to start spending much more, and he has little to gain by joining a crowded field until some of the lesser lights have bowed out. His TV show, which has been fully supporting him up to now, will have to show episodes in which he doesn’t appear.

He will also instantly join the front ranks of the republican candidates, so he will be a major target for attack.

So those who are interested in his possible candidacy should hope that he waits to the last minute, when he will be strong and fully funded, against bruised, battered and depleted opponents.

This will serve him well not only through the rest of the primaries, but into the general election. Hopefully, the democrats will have a knock-down-drag-out primary, with much acrimony and bitterness splitting their party.

Best of all, if Hillary wins the democrat nomination, Al Gore will try to sabotage her campaign by running as a Green Party candidate.

Hillary’s efforts to use all DNC funds to fend off Al Gore would not only open the race for the republican candidate, but could give him long coattails in the Senate and House races.

Fredhead.com is COMING SOON to REGISTER.COM

FredHead.com , one of the many websites encouraging former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) to join the presidential race, is growing tired of waiting. (lead sentence in the article)

*****
Doesn’t anyone bother to check out a link in an article before it goes on-line? Seems Fredhead.com cannot be encouraging because they haven’t even gone on-line as of four minutes ago.

This is the 5th article I have found tonight with bum information from the blogs or DC rumor sites. Makes you wonder where these people get their information and who double checks their sources.

You mean he hasn’t announced yet? (Yawn!) Guess he’s waiting to announce on Novenmber 5, 2008.... He can get all that great press in the “who WOULD you have voted for?” polls.

I'm not frustrated or angry. I'm just patiently waiting. I believe he'll announce when he thinks the time is right for HIM, not for me, or any of this other supporters. I doubt vey seriesly that any momentum will be lost. Most folks aren't paying attention; even some who will be voting in the Republican primaries.

They announce committees to create committees that will look into a group of advisors on a committee to think long and hard on whether or not said candidate should run. It takes about four announcements until they finally end up in some fake “home town” they claim only to stand on a train balcony (tracks and train from public museum used regardless of the law) and “officially” announce they are running for President.

ROTFL. Isn't that the truth!

"If"
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

By Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).

That’s exactly what I am talking about — the media doesn’t check out anything before they post on-line — the quality control is horrible IMO.
