2008 and counting: Please jump in, say Fredheads in frustration
The Hill ^ | 719/07 | Sam Youngman

FredHead.com , one of the many websites encouraging former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) to join the presidential race, is growing tired of waiting.

The site’s home page currently asks, “What’s the holdup?”

“Fred Thompson enjoys an unprecedented groundswell of grassroots support,” the page reads. “Fredheads believe in his potential. Fredheads know he can very well be the next president of the United States. This support should be nurtured, not pushed aside and asked to stand-by forever.

“The time has come. Enough with the ambiguities. Enough with those around you being more decisive than you are.”
Keith Harper, a software engineer, the website’s owner and a self-described Fredhead, said there is some frustration among Thompson’s grassroots supporters.

Harper, who lives in Chattanooga, Tenn., said a lot of supporters were expecting an announcement on July 4. Harper told The Hill that he doesn’t want to second-guess professional political operatives, but he is concerned Thompson might be missing his best window to get in.

“I don’t want to see him lose that momentum,” Harper said.

Harper added that he started the site so Thompson supporters would have a place to meet and discuss the candidacy, and backers from across the country have logged on to do just that. Of course, right now they don’t have an official candidacy to discuss.

As for Thompson’s timing, Harper clearly seems to think sooner is better than later.

“Let’s hear it, Fred,” Harper wrote on his website. “Take your hat off and throw it into the ring.”

Thompson’s spokesmen did not comment.

"I gotta go to the bathroom."

At least some Fred supporters understand he is not a candidate.

*sniffles* Man, nothing worse when PJ-Comix drops into a thread on the guy you’ve been waiting to run for nearly a year, with an image of Linus waiting for The Great Pumpkin.

*sigh* RUN FRED RUN!

That’s one reason I haven’t been big on him. I don’t appreciate being teased, I really don’t.

Nothing against Fred, but I’m sticking with someone else for now.

I don't blame you. I won't consider him until he declares.

Just amazing how the sheeple follow the MSM line.

Simply because many candidates announced obscenely early to maximize their fundraising doesn’t mean EVERYBODY has to.

Man, I am loving this. They will be discusing this in Poly Sci classes when my kid goes to college 18 years from now.

It is now everyone vs. Fred as he sits back and builds to a crescendo.

Just remember Fred fans, just because WE don’t know the date does not mean HE does not know the date. Mean while the other campaigns flail away at the non candidate (that OK there Man50D)

I can take only so much teasing. There has been too much of that!

The Man has to get off the pot and make known his desire to run.

Give me a break. The race started too early. And, given his poll numbers, why change what’s working?

No “true” Fred Thompson supporter is going to bolt (15 MONTHS before the election) to another candidate.

And, as a “non-candidate” he can pretty much choose his forum and message. He’s going to a Hannity Freedom Concert I heard. Smart.

And the media still talk about him because, let’s get real here, we all know he’s running. Why all this silly talk of “just announce” when 99% of the last 20 years of announcements by candidates is a multi-layered process also? They announce committees to create committees that will look into a group of advisors on a committee to think long and hard on whether or not said candidate should run. It takes about four announcements until they finally end up in some fake “home town” they claim only to stand on a train balcony (tracks and train from public museum used regardless of the law) and “officially” announce they are running for President.

Yeah, Fred should just hurry up!

I know lots of people, and 99.9% of them vote. Most aren’t paying much attention yet.

Why?

1000 dollar a plate fund raisers, exiting lucrative business contracts for radio and publishing, traveling and campaigning (sorry but that is exactly what it is).

Does the duck have to put on a name tag in order to be called a duck? Let the man play the new game. It’s actually fun.

The uncampaign of the uncandidate.
