Live Thread: Senate Amnesty Debate (CRITICAL 2ND CLOTURE VOTE TODAY!) Woo hoo!! It's DEAD!!
The U.S. Senate with Free Republic Input | June 28, 2007 | truthkeeper

Posted on 06/28/2007 6:25:57 AM PDT by truthkeeper

Here we are again my friends, hopefully for the last debate thread on this particular monstrous legislation. Proceedings are supposed to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST, with the cloture vote being taken at 10:30 a.m.

On a personal note, you've all been wonderful in your passion, vigilance, and commitment to the principles on which our country was founded. If I have to be in a foxhole, I want to be in it with you guys.

He is dead wrong on this one, but this wasn't the top issue in 2000 and 2004 and he never attempted to deceive us on his immigration stance.

Yes he did. He was very clear from the beginning that any immigration plan that he would submit would not include amnesty.

Your post is thoughtful and on target. I live in Texas...my wife and I were talking today...and both agreed the Mexicans shot themselves in the foot with their demonstrations with Mexican Flags and all of the hoopla associated with their Mexican pride. Thank God for the Internet...where do you think the so called revival of the “fairness doctrine” came from...fear of an informed electorate. With that the Democrats are DOA (dead on arrival)..

Yes there was some finnagling with the letter-of-the-law "If they have to pay us $1 then technically it's not amnesty" but in spirit, it was precisely amnesty. So I'll grant you that.

The death of this illegal immigration shamnesty bill will hopefully draw many people away from supporting the likes of Clinton and Obama. Their votes to pass this garbage of a bill to damage America and her future will not be forgotten.

I’m simply making the FACTUAL statement that is is REPUBLICAN Senators who killed this bill, lest JeffAtlanta goes off the deep end without someone throwing him a lifeline.

Anyone who didn’t know that W was an open-boarders guy, dating all the way back to his tenure as Texas governor, wasn’t paying attention.

Your attacks on JeffAtlanta have become tiresome. Forgive us if some of us are not in the mood for a Republican cheerleading session, after what these bozos tried to do to our country.

We've all tried to explain why we feel as we do but you aren't interesting in hearing our viewpoints. Rest assured we KNOW who our true heroes are.

I suggest you fight your need to have the last word and just give it a rest already. Sheesh.

You are 100% percent RIGHT...he said it REPEATEDLY. And I can assure you, I most certainly WAS paying attention.

What you don’t seem to understand is that as of today nothing has changed...at all.

Nothing changing is a hell of a lot better than what was in this bill. It was a comprehensive mess of back room Reid and Kennedy written garbage. Yes, we need to do something but this bill wasn't it. The American people want border security first- it has already been passed (Oct 2006) just not implemented.

You now have guaranteed that a democratic president and congress will reap the Hispanic vote for at least a generation.

Your assumption that the majority of legal Hispanics supported this bill and favor amnesty for illegal aliens is way off base. Do you personally know any legal Hispancs? (I'm quite sure you know plenty of the illegal variety). The former harbor quite a bit of (justifiable) resentment for those who continue to skirt the law while they and their law-abiding family members jumped through all the legal hoops to get here. And I'm quite sure it hasn't passed their notice that far more Democrat than Republican senators voted for this amnesty bill. They'll always remember the Donkeys as the party that favored law-breakers over the law-abiding.

So quite the opposite from your naive and emotional assertion, the Democrat party didn't win squat today.

From DCP...

"The piling on....calling the boss whenever things got nasty...to me that's what brownshirts are. SS stormtroopers...jackbooted thugs jumping in glee as more and more moderate conservatives were forced out of here."

That's just from a few minutes searching, a bit more would find the rest of your freepers as nazis posts.

I think that not only didn't they win, this whole fiasco is a negative for them. A powerful coalition formed with conservatives, union members, independents and others who came together to stop an outrageous attempt to destroy their Country. I, personally, have never seen opposition to an issue as diverse as this one. And where were the Democrat presidential runners on this issue? Against the will of the American people. Bush was too, but he is not running for anything. I personally think this grass roots effort is exactly the thing Fred Thompson could, and should, tap into. Americans got excited when they felt threatened and this can be used to the advantage of anyone reading the mood of the American people.

We must keep active and we must encourage others, some who never called their Senator before this bill, to remain involved. Before November, 2008, we just might convince more than half the voters that the Democrats are dangerous to their well being and that they should vote with those who stood with them to defeat the traitorous amnesty bill.

It’s quite clear the elite Republicans just tolerate “backwards Middle America” for the votes. They are not nationalists; hence, could not care less about our history, country, and culture. They are all globalists! We need a revolution in this country.
