He’s trying to mitigate perjury and obstruction of justice criminal charges.

He’s trying to stay out of jail. (IMHO)

I’m pretty sure they can’t put him in jail. That’s for the court to do.

Maybe he thinks this helps him for a possible criminal problems.

Fox saying that family was huddled at break, rumors of a deal?

Why a deal? What would a deal entail?

I’m lost,lol.

After a criminal trial or a plea bargain, of course. Criminal charges have to be brought against him first. This is a proceeding about whether he can continue to practice law after all he has done to prove himself unworthy.

OK, just heard the tail end of a CNN report, “families are looking for criminal contempt charges”?

It doesn’t help him to admit that what he has done is worthy of disbarment — that’s a statement against his interests.

He probably has to sign a waiver of appeal for that to be valid. I don’t know the rules or law on that.

I’m as cynical as anyone, but a deal was not cut to keep him out of jail. The disciplinary committee has no authority to bind anyone to that deal. Only the NC attorney general could do that and he wouldn’t do that now.

Nifong is an idiot for doing this now after putting the families through another week of hell. This should have been done a long time ago.

Civil suits will be filed within the month. I can only hope the “victim” is prosecuted and goes to jail for the 90 years (30 years times 3) that she wanted the boys to serve.

I’ve got serious problems with my computer - I tried that link and my system crashed....

I also can’t get programs to recognize Java - I’ve gotta bribe a computer geek to come over and fix this thing...

I have no idea why a deal would be necessary, unless the state of NC decides not to prosecute him if he agrees to be disbarred and to waive his right of appeal.

This won’t effect civil cases, unless there is a deal with the families.

Weird that no lawyers are on TV speculating and explaining all of this, since they can talk ENDLESSLY about Paris Hilton.

I couldn’t live with myself if I sent a support letter for Nifong.

Perhaps they're from other attorneys in his office who may have lots of problems if he gets disbarred. I wonder how many old cases will be reopened. Maybe they are from other Miss Mangums that he has (unfairly) served in the past.

Attempting to put in prison 3 white males for a crime they never would have committed isn’t as important as Hilton and her current jail-house meltdown.

Every Nifong assistant that worked on this case should be disbarred too, since they all had access to the DNA report and did nothing about it.

Maybe the families don’t want lying wh*re to be prosecuted because they want this to end. It is extremely stressful to be involved in a criminal trial — and the boys would be witnesses.

I didn’t think that the State AG was even involved with this, I thought this was simply administrative by the Bar Assoc?

Yeah, I know. But who knows what goes on behind the scenes? A NC government lawyer has to make the decision about whether to prosecute Nifong, after all.

CNN finally talking about this, says very, very, unusual and strange act by Nifong, could be trying to mitigate criminal chgs?

Maybe Nifong is merely trying to control the situation. Instead of them telling him he is disbarred, he is telling them.
