Embracing Illegals
Companies are getting hooked on the buying power of 11 million undocumented immigrants

But Inez and Antonio aren’t your typical American consumers. They’re undocumented immigrants who live and work in the U.S. illegally. When the couple, along with Esmeralda, crossed the Mexican border five years ago, they had little money, no jobs, and lacked basic documents such as Social Security numbers. Guided by friends and family, the couple soon discovered how to navigate the increasingly above-ground world of illegal residency. At the local Mexican consulate, the Valenzuelas each signed up for an identification card known as a matrícula consular, for which more than half the applicants are undocumented immigrants, according to the Pew Hispanic center, a Washington think tank. Scores of financial institutions now accept it for bank accounts, credit cards, and car loans. Next, they applied to the Internal Revenue Service for individual tax identification numbers (ITINS), allowing them to pay taxes like any U.S. citizen — and thereby to eventually get a home mortgage.

Today, companies large and small eagerly cater to the Valenzuelas — regardless of their status. In 2003 they paid $11,000 for a used Ford Motor Co. van plus $70,000 more for a gleaming new 30-foot trailer that now serves as headquarters and kitchen for their restaurant. A local car dealer gave them a loan for the van based only on Antonio’s matrícula card and his Mexican driver’s license. Verizon Communications Inc. also accepted his matrícula when he signed up for cell-phone service. So did a Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC ) branch in the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in northeast Los Angeles where they live. Having a bank account allows them to pay bills by check and build up their savings. Their goal: to trade up from a one-bedroom rental to their own home. Eventually, they also hope to expand their business by buying several more trailers. Matrícula holders like the Valenzuelas are “bringing us all the money that has been under the mattress,” says Wells Fargo branch manager Steven Contreraz.

This man is either a bald face lier....or totally disconnected from reality.

He's both as are most congressional supporters of this Bill. I don't know a single person who supported it and most polls I have seen (even on CNN) easily had 2/3 of the respondents against it. The Congress no longer supports the will of the people and the self-annoited Kings and Queens think they don't have to do the bidding or succumb to the will of the people anymore. It absolutely amazes me that they gave the collective middle finger to what the majority of the US citizens wanted and decided to try and pass it anyway. Nothing short of revolution at the polls in 08 will save this republic from these treasonous idiots. IMO, easily 90% of these clowns need to be frog marched back to their respective states in shame. They are completely useless and no longer have any honor.

Now that the issue is hot and they have lost our side needs to puch back. Time to move on the border fence....now.

IDEA: There is a private group that has started to build it’s own fence. Someone needs to start a website devoted to building the fence coast to coast. The website becomes a clearing house, news center, fund raiser, rallying point, flash point, you name it, to help this group keep going, and to get other groups together so they can build fences too. Alot of these border areas are private property and those owners would love to have a way to stop them.

Since when are we supposed to wait for f***ing feds to do their job especially since they have dragged their feet all this time.

It becomes an act of defiance against the open borders crowd, as such an act it will also bring out all the other traitors to this country’s sovereignty.

Reid has said that it is Bush’s fault that the bill died.

Well, then, bravo! to Pres. Bush! I was afraid he might be on the wrong side of this stupid bill, but if he's the one who killed it, good for him!!

Won't their pay be raised to legal levels?

No they will just fire the old one's and replace them with new illegals, and buy some rino's in a few years to make the new illegals legal and then they will fire them, and etc, etc. That way they get bottom tear wages and no longevity pay raises and the tax payer picks up the health care and retirement cost.

Yes, now those illegals have learned their lesson. If they don’t return to Mexico immediately FR will reject more border enforcement bills.

Yes, the borders have never been more secure than they are tonight.

Our reasoning is lucid and crystal clear.

Congrats fellow freepers!

What on Gods green earth is this moron (Reid) smoking?

“There’s a lot of support for this bill on the outside”

This man is either a bald face lier....or totally disconnected from reality.”

I live in Nevada, and I am SORRY to say that Reid is one of my senators.
He is smoking something...YES

There is support for this bill on the outside”—Sure-OUTSIDE of the borders of the USA, not in Nevada except from the million and a half illegals working here in the hotel/casino industries.

Yes- Reid IS a bald faced liar. He has been doing it for so long, he and his cohorts don’t even know when it’s happening anymore.

Yes- Reid IS disconnected from reality. I am surprised that he hasn’t “disappeared” into the desert on a one way trip by now. He has stepped on a great many toes, and has lied over and over again to Nevada, particularly NORTHERN Nevada. All of his alliances and allegiances are in SOUTHERN Nevada.
