LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Los Angeles residents were urged on Wednesday to take shorter showers, reduce lawn sprinklers and stop throwing trash in toilets in a bid to cut water usage by 10 percent in the driest year on record.

With downtown Los Angeles seeing a record low of 4 inches

of rain since July 2006 -- less than a quarter of normal -- and with a hot, dry summer ahead, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said the city needed "to change course and conserve water to steer clear of this perfect storm."

It is the driest year since rainfall records began 130 years ago.

My father was a pipe-fitter for the paper industry and his biggest bellyache was when he had to go unplug the toilets at the mill. They were almost always plugged up by feminine pads.

There are 1 million illegals in the City of Los Angeles...the water usage would fall by much more than 10%

The liberals in the hills had the Toilet to Tap program banned in the San Fernando Valley. Basically all the reclaimed water in Balboa Park was to be placed into the Hansen Dam, to seep down back into the ground water after 7 years.

Orange County just finished their program, and claim to be drought proof.

Liberal policies have brought on this situation.

I wish it were all coastline.... "Arizona Bay" sounds like a nice place to visit.

George Strait has some oceanfront property in that area, I believe. :)

I doubt the illegals are wasting the water by showering regularily.

Our self-absorbed mayor is at it again. This guy wakes up every day at 4:00 AM, and manufactures an issue to get his mug on TV. He wants to make sure that the first thing we see or hear about when we awake is a TV spot or soundbite of him.
This is a false issue. Our watercomes from the snow pack up in the Sierras, which is actually quite thick this year. For the most part, rainfall in the L.A. area is notsaved for our water supply.

There is no shortage of water for LA right now.

The Sierra Nevada casts the valley in a rain shadow. Owens Valley has always been the land of little rain.

SEND ILLEGALS HOME.

It's unbelievable the fools in DC want to let millions more into the country. If they legalize the 12 ++++++ million that are here now, we will have 100 million more people in this country over the next twenty years.

I bet the mayor has hatched a plan to sell LA water to MWD for a profit to bail out the City.

the City of LA is already out of money this year. No spending til July 1 07.

My Yorkshire Terrier refuses to go without it’s daily shower.
I exercise sometimes enough to where I may shower 4 times a day.
I water moderately already, but THANK god I fell asleep with water running often enough to where if I were asked to cut down, I think I still can.

Maybe Arnold and Antonio can do a native raindance or something! Or rub two carbon credits together and create a storm.
