Thompson In
If you believe this report and we do former Sen. Fred Thompson will indeed throw his hat in the ring for president of the United States. As many readers of the GOPNation.com know, we endorsed Thompson, believing he is the best candidate at the right time to maintain the White House for the GOP. An Thompson entry would shake up the Republican primary process almost immediately and in our opinion, cause one or two GOP candidates to withdrawel from the race before the end of summer. Stay tuned.
Gingrich Getting Closer
Meanwhile, it looks like former GOP Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is getting ever closer to his own race for the presidency. In what can only be described as the must-read story of this early week, the New Yorkers Jeffrey Goldberg paints a GOP in turmoil with its leaders (including Gingrich) at each others throats over the partys losses in 2006 and dwindling chances in 2008. Expect lots of Rove bashing in this piece.
Zoellick at World Bank
President Bush is expected to name deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick to head the World Bank. Zoellick would replace the disgraced Paul Wolfowitz who resigned last week. Hmm, another Bush crony in another plum position. Yeah, that will work out.
Did you hear?
The mainstream press didnt tell you but we will: gas prices have started to fall, thanks in part to higher inventories and of course, the passage of Memorial Day. Todays average stands at 3.197/gallon down 3 cents from the high set on May 24. Dont worry, any Fourth of July increase will surely be reported as a price surge by the press, no matter how much the prices fall between now and then.
Drudge Headline of the Day
Gotta love this: I Saw The Climate Change, describing Nancy Pelosis reaction to her recent trip to Greenland. Classic liberalism.

My nephew lives there. He learned good manners in MD.
Don’t Bogart whatever it is you’re smoking. Pass it on!
Why Fred Thompson? He doesn't agree with you on much, like Bush's AMENSTY. Maybe he's just another racist.
"Now a senior analyst for ABC News Radio and substitute host for the legendary Paul Harvey, Thompson savaged the White House immigration proposal in a commentary last week. "A nation without secure borders will not long be a sovereign nation," he said. "No matter how much lipstick Washington tries to slap onto this legislative pig, it's not going to win any beauty contests."

You are dripping hate AuntB, just dripping hate.
Good points.
I’m partial to Michael Steele myself..
Hunter might be a good choice for Defense..and I would have thought Newt would be terrific at State- but his global warming hysteria has me wondering what he’s up to. (If people would approach it as climate change and blame the sun instead of each other- we might get somewhere)
The cops were very polite..........after they figured out I wasn’t who they thought I was........
So it looks as if all of us WOEFUL Republicans will not have to hurl ourselves from the nearest cliff since Fred is getting in. I support him 100%, but he will (already has) been painted as “the best the GOP’s got” in an attempt to downgrade his meteoric rise in future polls. The media never gets it.
I've felt that way, too. I hope Newt stays out of this, its going to be hard for a candidate to put together a first ballot nomination, as it is. Perhaps he's best in the Cabinet. If he'd STFU about all this global warming crap, he'd make a fine UN ambassador.
Of course, anything can happen.
I remember how worried I was in 2000 about McCain who seemed to have a commanding lead in the early primaries.
Thank God, Bush pulled ahead in South Carolina and never looked back.
(and, if you don’t like Bush, please don’t say so...I’ve heard enough of that crap... and, he’s not running)
Oh, that comment is not directed to you jonathanmo, just a general thing.
Hah, well, I’m more of a redneck than a deadhead, so you may be right!
Mr. Gingrich also has baggage from the “scandal” that forced him from office. You know his opponents will dredge that karp up again.
I’m not smoking anything. Tommy Thompson has a better chance of winning the nomination than Fred Thompson. Two of the last three republican presidents were governors, and Tommy was a governor for 14 years. In the past 100 years, our country elected a republican former U.S. senator to be president once. That was Nixon, and he probably won the nomination partly because he was a VP.
Lol, I wanted Newt to run in 2000, but he flamed out and quit and blew his chance. I’ve stuck with him all these years, but Newt’s time has passed. Maybe VP? I dunno...
THIS GUY IS NO SAINT....CHECK HIS RECORD....NOTHING SPECIAL AND POLITICAL AS HECK....VOTE THIRD PARTY.....YOUR HOSED AND GET USED TO IT....VOTE THIRD PARTY....
From what I've read, it's been a specific small number of critiques, and IMO Newt has every right to make those known. "Trashing a Republican President" is a serious exercise of hyperbole and exaggeration on your part.
And anybody who lends the slightest credence to the Human-Caused Global Warming hoo-ha is disqualified.
Again you exaggerate. Newt's consistent and written position is that we don't know enough about "global warming" to know what it is, let alone whether we "cause" it.
But get this: did you know that Newt has been divorced twice?
Did you by any chance know that he's been divorced twice?
