Romney's wife made contribution to Planned Parenthood
Boston Globe ^ | May 10, 2007 | Scott Helman

Posted on 05/10/2007 12:18:01 PM PDT by presidio9

As abortion continues to define the Republican presidential primary, Mitt Romney's campaign said yesterday that Romney's wife, Ann, made a $150 contribution to Planned Parenthood in 1994, the year Romney ran for Senate as a candidate supporting abortion rights.

Romney spokesman Kevin Madden said Ann Romney does not remember whether it was a straight donation to the abortion rights group, which supports abortion rights, or whether she wrote the check as an admission fee for an event.

"Since it was so long ago, Ann has no information of the circumstances," he said.

Madden confirmed the payment in response to a question from the Globe asking whether Romney or his wife had given to the organization.

He said the check was written from the Romneys' joint checking account, but she signed it and the contribution came from her, Madden said. Mitt Romney has not donated to the group, Madden said.

A spokesman for the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, Angus McQuilken, declined to comment. "It is our policy not to comment on contributions," he said.

The disclosure of Ann Romney's contribution comes as one of Romney's leading GOP rivals, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, is taking heat from conservatives for having made at least six donations to Planned Parenthood chapters with his wife at the time, Donna Hanover, in the 1990s. Giuliani has often said that although he favors abortion rights, he personally "hates" and "abhors" abortion and would counsel a pregnant woman against it. Giuliani's contributions were first reported by The Politico, a new political news organization.

Giuliani and Romney are facing questions about their records on abortion as they try to win Republican primary voters, who have generally backed candidates opposing abortion.

Romney favored abortion rights when he ran for Senate and then for governor of Massachusetts

Oh gee whiz, Mitt’s wife gave 150 bucks to Planned Parenthood 13 years ago.

Well that does it for me, Mitt’s out, in my book. NOT!!

I did the same thing about the same time. I was not politically involved or aware and I thought they made birth control available to women for free.

When you know better you do better.

Why is that a shock? The Romneys are pro abort opportunists. I wouldn’t vote for a Mormonologist anyway. This isn’t a Judeo-Christian-Mormonologist country.

In that case, I won't be voting for you or your husband either.

Laura Bush is pro-choice and it has not influenced her husband's constant move to the right on this issue.

What's a Mitt?

As a great 20th Century philosopher said, "If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else."

LOL. Thanks for your input, Mr. Sharpton. Sharpton was talking about Mormonology's past doctrine saying blacks were inferior. Christian religions have the same past. It's not the same as the PRESENT Mormonologist beliefs that say MY Jesus was conceived and born like every other human being by a human-flesh God, and MY Jesus is a brother of the devil. Mormonologists aren't Christians. I would only vote for a Christian or Jew for president. No atheists, no Scientologists, no Mormonologists. Does that make me a bigot?

I wonder. Did Mitt’s wife have a separate checking account at the time? Did they file separate tax returns? Did Mitt receive a tax benefit from this? Or is his wife just the fall girl for this damaging revelation.

How is this voluntary donation to the primary villian in the abortion saga any different than Rudy’s?

don’t know and don’t care. I will say that you have a pretty odd sense of ownership of Jesus, though.

I'll amend it to THE Jesus. THE Christian Jesus is not the same entity as the Mormonologist Jesus. Mormonologists deny THE Jesus and replace Him with something completley different with a different agenda and path. Mormonologists aren't Christian.
