Terror Arrests in Fort Dix Plot FORT DIX, N.J.

May 8, 2007 - Six ethnic Albanians have been arrested in a plot to storm the Fort Dix installation in Burlington County.

Five of the suspects were arrested in Cherry Hill. They will be arraigned later today in federal court. Officials say it will happen in either in Camden or Newark.

Investigators say the suspects planned to use automatic weapons to storm the base and kill solders. The men were lured into a secret meeting to purchase AK-47s from an arms dealer, who was secretly cooperating with the FBI.

Officials say the suspects worked on a number of targets, including the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, Fort Monmouth in Eatontown, and several Coast Guard stations.

Federal agents made the arrests when the suspects zeroed in on Fort Dix.

Officials say some of the suspects were caught on tape.

A tip helped authorities arrest six New Jersey men Monday night in connection to an apparent terror cell, according to NBC 10’s sister station WNBC in New York.

Five of them were arrested in Cherry Hill, according to reports.

Investigators said the men planned to use AK-47s to storm Fort Dix and open fire on soldiers and civilians stationed at the New Jersey base, noting that other military locations were scouted by the terrorist cell.

Three of the unnamed suspects are brothers who are all believed to be Islamic radicals, according to sources. Some of the six arrested men were also born in Albania and the former Yugoslavia, but they have spent a significant amount of time in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to authorities.

NEW YORK -- Six men from New Jersey have been arrested in an alleged terror plot against soldiers at Fort Dix, according investigators.

Investigators said the men planned to use automatic weapons to enter Fort Dix and kill as many soldiers as they could at the N.J. base. Fort Dix was just one of several military and security locations allegedly scouted by this group, authorities said.

Investigators told Newschannel 4's Jonathan Dienst that these arrests are the result of a tip to the FBI and use of an informant to track the suspects. The terror suspects traveled over the last several months from New Jersey to the Poconos where they practiced firing automatic weapons, investigators said.

Investigators said the group discussed targeting numerous locations like Dover Air base, Fort Monmouth and several Coast Guard stations before deciding on Fort Dix as their intended target. Fort Dix is run in part by the Army and is a reserve-training center, but active units take part in training, including some which focuses on counter-terrorism....

Investigators said they infiltrated the group with two informants well over a year ago and bided their time while they secretly recorded the defendants, five of whom lived in Cherry Hill, a Philadelphia suburb about 20 miles from Fort Dix. "This is what law enforcement is supposed to do in the post-9/11 era - stay one step ahead of those who are attempting to cause harm to innocent American citizens," U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said.

It's also what we were supposed to be doing in the pre-9/11 era but someone in CIA removed all it's teeth.

Today he promotes his book in which he tries to disclaim all his responsibility.

It was a tip from a store clerk to local police. The local police did much of the early investigation then called in the feds who set up the sting and surveillance.

No indication that any portion of the Patriot Act was applied or needed to apprehend this group.

Homeland security's #2 was on TV today, heaping the praise on the store clerk who tipped off the local police. She said the credit really belongs to them.

Patriot Act has never been justified. It's unlikely it ever will be. It is a poor makeshift to the government performing its duties in excluding foreign radical trash, particularly those of totalitarian ideology such as Muslims, and closing the borders against them.

You know, this will be a real opening for conservatives to force a discussion of the domestic Muslim threat, the dangers of these illegals, the "rights" of Gitmo's illegal combatants, and a lot of other issues. So I think this attack, having been foiled, is a Good Thing.

And, yes, they will have constitutional rights because they weren't on a foreign battlefield.

Life in prison, the most unpleasant federal penitentiary. And find a way to isolate them from other Muslims. A long lonely life in a cage with no hope of anything better.
