Gathering of Eagles, in a town near you

Posted on 03/23/2007 7:41:46 PM PDT by debbieargel

Hello all, I am currently in Florida for a story on my son, Capt. Derek Argel. I want to express my thanks to the Gathering of Eagles and all of the work that went in to the rally. All across this country, I met great Americans who stand for our colors and support our troops and their mission. The Vets I met asked what else we could do. I am 54 years old, and a Viet Nam era vet. When I get back to California, my husband and I plan to go to the recruiter's office and ask if we can serve in some way. Many of our friends will join us as a symbolic gesture to Congress, that we are again willing to lay down our lives for this country. If others want to plan this in their cities, it would send a great message to the worst Congress and Speaker in the history of this great Nation. Perhaps a great "Old guys recruitment day" is in order. We can come up with a date, contact our local media and send a great statement. At any rate, my husband and I will go. Debbie Argel Bastian Proud mother of Capt. Derek Argel , USAF Combat Control, KIA Memorial Day, 2005 Diayla, Iraq

Thank you, sir … for your service. (I know that “sir” is reserved for officers … but, anyone that is in the military (reserve or otherwise) during these times of conflict deserves a hugh amount of respect.

kristinn, JAN,

I was at the GOE in D.C., things didn't turn out as planned, I ended up in Alexandria instead of where I was supposed to be, but I was there with the GOA (and my 13 year-old step granddaughter)when it counted. We froze our bottoms off for a few hours, but I wouldn't trade that experience for all the money, or comfort in the world.

The little girl had an experience she'll never forget, and I have a feeling we have a future patriot who, IS the future.

Her parents are dumbed down, and when I told her mother she was interviewed at the rally, she replied "Bet there were more against the war there than for it."

They are more consumed with their own comfort than politics and what her future holds, and would have been willing to sacrifice her to any ideaology to get rid of her for a week. And, FORTUNATELY, they are too busy worrying about their own comfort to vote. This little girl is a constant reminder to me that there is hope for the world, and, although she is challenging, I am so proud of her.

This little girl will be by my side when we can do it again. I will be happy to organize a local effort here, please ping me with details of your efforts.

We're working out the details and should be able to announce something this Monday (or Tuesday at the latest.) I don't want to jump the gun, but it'll be something we can do in about two weeks in our communities.

I've been thinking....Maybe if we could get it organized, we all should pick a day and stand on a corner in our home town and collect money for our military that our congress doesn't want to supply. I just don't know how we could get it to them though because I could see congress putting the money in the general fund.

I'll be at the recruiters on that day. I will then go to my VFW post to have a gathering of patriots. I do not suggest sending any money to Congress. The funds I collect will go to Move America Forward. We are working to raise $200,000 to send 30 Gold Star parents to Iraq. Please find a non-profit that actually helps the troops. There are many out there.

Thanks, Deb

I would never willingly give congress a penny. I was thinking exposure of people doing the job that congress won't, all around the country would be good. My concern was that if we gave the military any donations though that congress would subtract it from the military budget.

Yes. You are right. I get many emails from the troops as the Director of Military Outreach for Move America Forward. We send many of the things that our troops need in the form of care packages. There are many great organizations that do this for the troops. I, like you would not send a penny to Congress. I know it would only go to fund their next raise.
God bless, Deb

I took this picture last weekend.

I keep him and the others in my mind and prayers at all times. As an American, I am grateful for what he did.

I find myself desperately wanting to join you in this quest. Unfortunately I am too old and to overweight. I am scheming on the overweight bit. I wish they would flex even more on the old bit I am an engineer and there are things I could do, but is it really realistic for an old fart to sign up? Isn't this just showboating unless its for real?

Still Its a powerful piece of direct action. See we can learn their words.

I have been thinking on this whole thing and these folks expect that they will protest all over the country and be unchallenged and thus win their way. I think that the Eagles need to meet them every place and every time they organize anything of any size.

The GOE borrowed ideas from the Patriot Guard about armbands and gear and such but are they willing to borrow the ideas of Missions that alert Eagles to each and every scheduled protest? Of local planners who are responsible and practiced in the mechanics of setting up responses/getting permits/coordinating with police? The formula is worked out and there are lots of Eagles out there who would love to match these punks every day they come out to spew.

Folks are already doing this on a small scale.

The PGR after a little more than 2 years is capable ( but not asked too, thank God ) to run hundreds of Missions on any single day. GOE could build something equivalent to help folks respond locally all across the country.. this would be breathtaking.

I'll be watching for what we can do. I'm 60 but still in superior shape. I'm a Viet Nam era Marine ( they didn't send my unit and a career in law enforcement called ). I also did six years in the Army reserve much of it as a spook. I'm ready. I'd go shoot those bastards myself in a heartbeat.
