But Al Gore already stated openly that "the debate is over".

His junk science, anti-capitalist idiocy has won the day, because he said so. And that's quite enough for any liberal.

Excellent information! Of course I had to watch it in installments, due to time constraints.

Or, he'd use a second and try to blend in with the rest of the trees.

And, you're welcome (blushing)!

Gore can't participate because he drinks a lot of tea and has to have numerous breaks to go the bathroom to relieve himself. Otherwise, he would put up a strong defense.

Nice.

A likely correction on that.

"Below the home is a network of pipes descending 300 feet into the earth, where the dirt and rock keep a constant temperature of 67 degrees"

I bet that is supposed to be 57 degrees F. There's no way it's as warm at 67F, 300' down, unless they're sitting on geothermal vents or some such.

I'll tell you where this goes. When the first Great Debate came around...it was over the most significant science idea in decades...that evolution just might be true. T. H. Huxley went into the debate and clobbered the opposition to evolution and set the slam dunk of acceptance. We may stand around today and openly question it...but its still running the show...that shows the power of that one debate.

Here we have a debate of the same caliber and we may actually see the same caliber of debate artist. T. H. Huxley was one of the best debate scientists of the period. He was prepared when he walked in. Today...we have Lord Monckton prepared and ready.

Adding to this episode...the good Lord Monckton...was a policy adviser to Baroness Thatcher. He didn't get the job because he was a wussie at debate. This guy could be in the class of Mike Tyson/Hulk Hogan for debate. He doesn't go into a debate situation unprepared. He has had lots of practice in this art. For those who might not remember Lord Monckton's recent venture into American history...when U.S. Senators Rockefeller and Snowe wrote a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Exxon-Mobil asking him to stop funding scientists who reject global warming...it was Lord Monckton who stepped into the fray and wrote the letter...which was a brief reminder to the senators of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and calling on them to reverse their position or resign. He wasn't joking. He knows US history, constitution, and is more than just a lightweight player in the fight against global warmers.

Finally let us consider this...he wasn't hired by Ms. Thatcher to stand down to anything...his job was to set the policy agenda for British government. Somewhere behind all of this episode...you have to think that Ronald Reagan is sitting quietly and smiling...having rearranged the board for the dismantlement of the second Soviet Union.

Al Gore is in a terrible position. He can turn this down and walk away....thus casting a long shadow over his agenda. The Lord has easily won the situation and proven Al wasn't capable of proving his point (same punch for Jimmy Carter's recent analysis of the Israeli situation...if you can't stand for your words or agenda...then you lose).

If Al Gore goes into this debate...he cannot win. Lord Monckton...3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley...will deliver knockout punches and set the honorable vice-president down. There will be dark moment that day with millions of global warmers...weeping themselves to sleep because their cause lost. And somewhere out there....you can only believe that a Ronald Reagan chuckle will be heard.

Debates are not the proper way to conduct a sober assessment of science with regards to the determination of public policy.

But scientist "consensus" is good enough to upend the world economy even though it is not a given that anything can be done about GW, man made or not?

"Could ALGORE’S psychosis about GLOBALONEY WARMING be yet another effort by the privileged elites to keep the great unwashed (that’d be the rest of us!) under their very well manicured – and in his case, quite fat -- thumbs? "

Officials Urged to Grill Al Gore About His Rich-Get-Warmer, Poor-Get-Colder Global Warming Offset Proposals at House and Senate Hearings Wednesday

Members of the black leadership network Project 21 urge elected representatives to use Al Gore's appearances today before the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to ask the former Vice President about his own lavish energy consumption -- and his advocacy of a society in which only the wealthy could enjoy amenities most Americans currently take for granted, like home heating.

Gore's proposals would result in a society in which the rich get warmer and the poor get colder.

While Gore is a long-time proponent of personal energy conservation and draconian regulations to mandate reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research revealed that Gore's mansion in the exclusive Belle Meade neighborhood of Nashville uses more than 20 times the national household average of electricity.

In response, Gore's office said the Gores "do the carbon emissions offset" -- such as making environment-related investments -- that allegedly neutralize the environmental harm related to their extraordinarily-high energy use.

Gore receives his offsets as a benefit from a company that he co-founded -- Generation Investment Management -- and reportedly does not pay for them himself. Interestingly, Carbon Neutral Company, which provides Generation Investment Management with its offsets, says its offsets "will be unable to reduce greenhouse gas emissions... in the short term."

If Gore's "buying offsets" strategy were to be adopted nationally, the average consumer would essentially be expected to pay twice for heat and power: first for the energy itself, then for offsets to atone for them.

Such double-billing would be particularly harmful to poor households, which, disproportionately, are minority.

"Al Gore may sleep well at night thinking he's not contributing to global warming, but if he expects everyone to be able to buy their way out of the sin of using electricity, natural gas and driving their cars to work and errands without having to cut back on necessities he is badly mistaken," said Project 21 fellow Deneen Borelli. "From the looks of their utility bills, the Gores kept their home warm and toasty this winter. Have they thought about the single mother who provides for her family on a paycheck-by-paycheck basis? I don't think she could afford an offset to heat her home without cutting back on something vital such as nutritional food and health care for herself and her children."

According to the federal Energy Information Agency, in an analysis released during the Clinton-Gore administration, imposing the restrictions mandated by the United Nation's Kyoto Global Warming Treaty would cost the U.S. economy $400 billion per year and would raise utility bills by 86 percent and gasoline by 66 cents a gallon.

An econometric study commissioned by the National Black Chamber of Commerce and other groups found that Kyoto regulations could put 3.2 million American jobs at risk -- including 864,000 jobs held by blacks and 511,000 held by Hispanics.

Already this winter, eight states, including Gore's Tennessee, report they have run out of money to help poor households pay for heating bills. Households that cannot afford to heat their homes, let alone pay for offsets.

"People are already freezing because they can't pay their bills and aid to help them is already stretched too thin. Al Gore would only make things worse if he imposed increased regulations on public utilities," said Project 21 member Kevin Martin. "If he wants to create a society where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, Gore's got the right idea with his global warming offsets and regulations."

"When did this country and so many others stop thinking critically? . . ."

About the time the commie revolution failed to spread outside Russia a few years after 1917 and the Frankfurt School decided that the only way to defeat capitalism was to destroy the culture that fostered it for thousands of years.

It is a fallacy that measures which could be taken to reduce the impact of global warming would necessarily "upend" the world economy. Given the potential that global warming has to impact the world economy, not doing anything could be a worse course of action than effective (and feasible) energy efficiency, alternate sources, and resource conservation tactics.
