Fresh off their discovery of Rev. Al Sharpton's slave ancestry and ties to Strom Thurmond, Ancestry.com has just announced that they have found traces of Ireland in Barack Obama's family tree.

According to their research 19-year-old Falmouth Kearney, Obama's third great grandfather, sailed from Ireland, landing in New York harbor on March 20, 1850.

Do the math. Every generation, your number of ancestors double. Of course, eventually they may even begin to overlap. My parents have a common ancestor born in 1440 and there is even more overlap once you are able to trace back to 1000 or so. Anyone who can get back to 500 a.d. has more ancestors who were alive on earth at the time (not counting the overlap). It is just a question of degree. And its a lot of fun. My kids can check the Native American, Hispanic, Asian, White and Mixed Race boxes on their college admission forms. Chances are even fair that we may even turn up an African someday.

Knowing how Democrats usually work, I'd be very surprised if the timing of this "new discovery" was just coincidental.

There is a German-American holiday: Steuben Day. I believe there are still parades in some American cities on that day to honor Count von Steuben's contribution to the American effort during the Revolution.

According to Wikipedia, Steuben Day is September 17. There are parades in Chicago (early September) and New York annually, and German food is served. The parade in NY is connected with an Oktoberfest.

So Obama still has six months to find some German ancestry. Or will HRC beat him to it? (LOL!)
