Sean Hannity's Gospel
hli.org ^ | 03/09/07 | Rev. Thomas Euteneuer

Posted on 03/09/2007 9:39:24 PM PST by Caravaggio

In the face of modern challenges to the Faith, Catholics who have a high profile in media, culture and government have a very grave responsibility to witness it correctly; otherwise, they will be held accountable in heaven for their anti-witness which affects the faith of millions.

For example, last Friday Sean Hannity took a few moments out of his afternoon radio show to make an apology. When I heard that the rather brash Hannity was actually going to apologize for something I was interested to find out what that would be. At first he sounded very sincere in saying we have to take responsibility for our mistakes. Fine so far. Then he went on to tell his hearers that he had taken two bites of a chicken sandwich that day because he had been traveling and literally forgot it was a Friday of Lent. He stopped eating it when he realized it was a Friday, but he used the opportunity on the show to make a fairly big deal about the "eat meat on Friday and you can go to hell" issue.

Well, even though he claims to be a "good Catholic," Hannity is hardly a credible commentator on Catholic matters. The chicken sandwich scandal was fairly trivial in the overall scheme of his show, but it said much more about the depth of his faith than anything else. I suspect that a great number of Catholics live their faith in the same way—rule-bound and juvenile—but we need something better from a public "Catholic" like Hannity. We need a vibrant witness of someone who knows and embraces his Faith as deeply as he articulates his political passions.

As if THAT makes him a scholar on Catholic theology - a topic it seems he knows nothing about.

Bill O'Reilley has the same attitude as Sean.
Know it alls, who in reality know nothing about the Bible.

The "Father" should aim his guns at the likes of Ted Kennedy, Dick Durban, Pat Leahy, John Kerry, and others in the "FAITH" who think abortion is a sacrament.

Going after Sean Hannity in a public confessional kind of way was base. Sean is an easy target because he's deferential and respects the faith. I wonder if this pious padre would nail a liberal like that?

Also, the padre is a major hypocrite. He's smug in stating no ARTIFICIAL means of birth control but the encyclical Humanae Vitae states the transmission of life must be preserved when the married couple comes togeter. Practicing the "rhythm method" is a violation as its sole intention is to reduce this chance to near zero. God judges the thoughts and intentions of the HEART and the sole intention of the no ARTIFICIAL birth control is a violation of the intention. The rhythm method violates the spirit of the encyclical.

Finally, the good padre is all wet on is comment that artificial means create all these unwanted pregnancies and thus drive abortion numbers up. Do you seriously think if everyone was practicing "rhythm" the unwanted pregnancies would decrease? There would be far more abortions in this scheme. I have catholic relatives on my mother's side and they all had large families....rhythm method flunks.

The FATHER is a coward and Sean scored points on his lack of righteous indignation PUBLICALLY against all the sodomites in the church and the other MAJOR sinners like the liberal politicians mentioned above (ala. Ted Kennedy). Don't forget, Joe Kennedy and Ted somehow found a convenient priest they could extort to get their marriages ANNULLED even with large families. Poor Joan, she was bearing illigitimate children to Ted for over 20 years.....Did the FATHER here speak out against THAT hypocrisy in such a public manner.

Sean Hannity is not a threat to the Catholic church. Go on EWTN and nail all the emasculated liturgy, the syncretism, the ecumenical nonsense of muslim pandering going on there padre.

Leave Sean Hannity alone. He is a staunch right to life advocate. Go after the larger threats to the faith please.

I sent this to the good padre.....

I found your public attack on Sean Hannity quite offensive. It was also cowardly. Consider the following:

Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, Pat Leahy, John Kerry, and others in the "FAITH" think abortion is a sacrament. Have you gone after them face to face? They would tear you to shreds and unlease the entire left wing media on you and shut you down. You avoid these guys and the likes of Nancy Pelosi but attack Sean Hannity? Going after Sean Hannity in a public confessional kind of way was base. But of course, Sean is an easy target because he's deferential and respects the faith. I wonder , pious padre, do you have the courage to nail a liberal (mentioned above) like that?

Next padre, your stance on birth control is hypocritical in the extreme. You smugly state no ARTIFICIAL means of birth control but the encyclical Humanae Vitae states the transmission of life must be preserved when the married couple comes togeter. You are not on safe ground with the rhythm method. Explain it at the particular judgment when Christ asks about allowing for children in your life...."My priest told me to practice the rhythm method..." will not fly.

You are all wet on stating artificial means of birth control create all these unwanted pregnancies and thus drive abortion numbers up. Do you seriously think if everyone was practicing "rhythm" the unwanted pregnancies would decrease? That is more than laughable. There would be far more abortions in this scheme. I have catholic relatives on my mother's side and they all had large families....rhythm method flunks.

Padre, you stand as a coward and Sean scored points on your total lack of righteous indignation PUBLICALLY against all the sodomites in the RCC - Cardinal Law as the poster child -- the other MAJOR sinners like the liberal politicians mentioned above (ala. Ted Kennedy). Don't forget, second generation Joe Kennedy and Teddy boy somehow found a convenient priest they could extort to get their marriages ANNULLED even with large families. Poor Joan Kennedy, she was bearing illigitimate children to Ted for over 20 years.....Did you EVER speak out against THAT hypocrisy in such a public manner.

Sean Hannity is not a threat to the Catholic church. I'll tell you what is if you are willing to listen. Go on EWTN and nail all the emasculated liturgy advocates, the syncretism, the ecumenical nonsense of muslim/islam-pandering going on there padre.

Leave Sean Hannity alone. He is a staunch right to life advocate. Go after the larger threats to the faith please, the big game. And then get ready to be persecuted. Remember Felicity, Lucia, Agatha, Agnes, Lawrence? You are so far from them it is pathetic. You endure no persecution at all! You have this gawdy website, a pious front, and then chase down the likes of Sean Hannity being a threat to the faith? Nail Ted Kennedy and Dick Durbin; Nancy Pelosi; Chris Matthews and the big abortionists. Start there and be ready to have your tidy little website shut down.....coward.

kind regards,

Michael T.

I saw this part of the show.....Fr. Euteneuer did his best. Sean IS a high profile Catholic and one worth reaching out to. Sean attacked him shamelessly. Artificial birth control is clearly a sin in the Catholic churh. It's kind of hard to miss the church's teaching on it.

I was very dissappointed in Sean, let's all keep him in our prayers......pray for a further conversion to his faith for him and ourselves while we are at it!

Sean's soul is every bit as important as the rest you mention.....this just happened on Sean's show last night....I think it's a timely topic. Cafeteria Catholics are often deluding themselves that they are NOT sinners.......we need to further convert them as well as pray for the likes of the pro-abortion dems you mentioned.

I stopped listening to his show a long time ago.

I stopped listening after his idiocy this past election cycle. I now make regular trips to the library and fill my commute with books-on-CD.

I am curious, has anyone seen his ratings lately? I would be surprised if they haven't tanked.

Hannity was baptized Catholic and probably had his First Communion and Confirmation but that's it. He frequently states that Okemo mountain is his church, it is there where he can talk to God.

The padre is all wet. Think he's lusted after women at his center? If so, he's an adulterer (Matt5627-30).

He is a major coward in taking on Hannity and looking the other way on major abortionists like Chris Matthews, Paul Begala, Ted Kennedy et. al.

How do I know he hasn't taken them on? Because he still has a very public website and is free to walk around and speak everywhere. If he did take them on , the powers of hell would be unleased on him and he would be silenced. He is too cowardly to go that far.

Also, I wonder if he has made himself a eunich for the sake of the kingdom as Jesus suggests. "Pledging" celibacy is one thing, carrying it out is another. It is a hard saying Christ tells us but it is necessary for his calling.

LOL, you caught me.

Seriously though, this subject of cafeteria Catholics is of paramount importance to a priest. I give the man a lot of credit for going on Sean's show and trying. I have no idea if Father E. has tried to reach out to Ted Kennedy or Nancy Pelosi......but I doubt they would give him the chance Sean did on national TV.

Sean may have thought this was a debate, but clearly he lost it with REAL Catholics. I agree with you though, that Kennedy, Pelosi and the rest are the serial killers of unborn babies and as Catholics WILL be held to those high standards the good father mentioned. I hope they can repent and change....but either way they will be held accountable. I try to live my life remembering that.

I KNOW Father E hasn't gone after Kennedy, Pelosi, et. al. by the very fact he still has a gawdy website and a storefront for his movement. If he seriously went after them, the full power of the pagan-liberal cabal of the press, the ACLU, and other slimy politicians would crush him.

It's easier to attack Sean and his ilk because they are deferential, polite, and non-threatening.

Look at Christ's example in John 8....you are of your father the DEVIL. He said this to religious leaders, the Pelosi's and Kennedy's of the Sanhedrin.

No, we don't need to be protected from the likes of right to life advocates like Sean Hannity Father E, we need to be protected from the larger threats. I can handle Sean Hannity on my own, thank you. Don't waste any more ink on your blog warning me that Sean Hannity is a bad example.

Warn me about the emasculated litergy, sodomy in the RCC, rank abortionists and pagans on the DemoRAT side...and then get ready for real persecution if you can take it padre.

Been there many, many years ago. Do not let the foolish and/or evil actions of mere men in the Church get in the way of your relationship with Christ. Pray to the Holy Spirit, and He will help you stay on track. Heretics will come and go, but God is our Rock of Ages.

I think Sean's Catholicism is as relevant to him as being a methodist is to Bush. It's a prop.

Host is doing a live interview. [I think it is interesting.] Suddenly, the host interrupts the guest, thanks him/her, and cuts the interview off "to go to breaking news". The 'breaking news' is a rehash of the news alert that has been running all morning.

One would think that, with 24 hours to fill, the cable news stations could have more indepth interviews and less of the every-three minutes news alerts about Anna's autopsy.

Oh, you hit the nail on the head. One of my big peeves, as well.

And the stupid statements he made-paraphrasing here: "the Church is lucky to have Catholics after the sex scandals".

Clearly the most offensive part of the segment. Most CINOs feel there should be a quid pro quo between them and Mother Church...as if the Bride of Christ has to bargain with them for their faith!

Wait a minute, I thought that the Catholics did away with the eating meat on Friday rule about the same time that they fired St. Christoper.

Hey, that's what I thought!

And as a pre-Vatican II American Catholic I was raised to believe I was going to hell if I willfully ate a chicken sandwich on a Friday. If this is not accurate, them blame the nuns and priests who raised and educated us during the 50s and 60s.
