"FBI: Al Qaeda May Target VA Hospitals"
Friday, August 27, 2004
Snip: Although about 2,300 airport workers are screened on a random basis every day, according to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, that represents about two per cent of the 110,000 airport workers in Canada, says the report.
Canada: a great year for terrorists and foreign criminals
Snip: The new year isn't even three months old yet but 2007 is turning into a boon for terrorists and violent foreign criminals who, at least temporarily, call Canada home. The Chinese have their Year of the Pig; we have the Year of the Terrorist. Several events occurred recently that do no make things look promising for Canadians who are concerned with law and order and the security of their country.
Canadian port security said too lax
Snip: Canada is not doing enough to screen cargo containers for potential terror threats or to weed out organized crime activity at its sea and freshwater ports, according to a report on Thursday.
Cruise ship passengers and their luggage should also undergo the same screening used at airports, and vehicles should be searched before they are allowed on large ferries, the Canadian Senate's national security and defense committee said.
Calgary flight scare: 30 bags flew without owners
Snip: Internal documents obtained under the Access to Information Act show that Transport Canada is investigating the incident a direct violation of major international security rules Canada adopted after the 1985 Air India bombings, which killed 329 people.
The only reason dozens of checked bags were allowed to be loaded onto the plane without their owners appears to be bedlam at Calgary Airport during a work-to-rule campaign by airport security screeners.
US truckers welcome new security act
Snip: OIIDA also noted that "once a Mexico-domiciled truck passes through the U.S. border with a permissible NAFTA shipment, there is currently no plan in place to monitor what that driver does once inside the United States."
"The establishment of this legislation is the only way the DOT's program should be allowed to go forward," Spencer said. "Otherwise, we should all think about staying off the highways."
"...Bags flew without owners"
Amazing in this day and age.
Glenn Beck's great.
Actually I just finished watching a great documentary called "Enemy Within" - much to my surprise, a bit anti-Moslem radicals, a Christian Amanpour study of Islam in England (CNN?) which showed fanatical Islamists spouting vehemence. One was arrested at the end of a meeting/debate being filmed for inciting terrrorism!
British authorities seem to be a bit ahead of us.
I would recommend watching it but do not know the exact source, though the name is correct. A search of "Enemy Within" might bring up an article by Alan Peters on AntiMullah! Aimed at people like Cindy Sheehan, John Murtha and contains graphic photos of real torture by the Islamic Republic.
If someone finds the CNN (?) documentary video please ping me.
cheers,
Greetings,
You might find this article about billionaires with Alan's comments interesting for you rthread.

"The Safety of Many Should Trump the Hurt Feelings of the Few"
By Pamela Meister
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "This week, House Republicans were able to have language added to the Rail and Public Transportation Act of 2007 (HR 1401) that would protect public transportation travelers who report suspicious activities from being sued. Legal action has already been taken against those passengers on US Airways who reported the suspicious behavior of six imams last year, which ultimately got the imams booted off the flight.
Nearly six years after 9/11, one would think that such legislation would be a no-brainer. After all, isn't the safety of millions of Americans who travel by plane and train each year more important than the hurt feelings of a handful of people? Apparently not, since the motion was not passed unanimously. The vote was 304-121, with all dissenting votes being cast by Democrats. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-MS, was among those in disagreement.
"Absolutely they should have the ability to seek redress in a court of law," said Mr. Thompson, who suggested that protecting passengers from a lawsuit would encourage racial profiling."
Should the passengers and flight crew who tackled Richard Reid have ignored him? After all, there could have been a perfectly innocent reason for him lighting matches, like the embarrassed woman on American Airlines who wanted to cover the odor of her flatulence. After causing the flight to land and everyone having to be put through security again, the woman (who was not charged) was not allowed back on the flight. There has been no word of her looking to sue American Airlines - nor should she. American Airlines acted with the safety of all its passengers in mind.
And had Reid's fellow passengers not acted, today we'd be asking, "Why weren't they more vigilant?" rather than congratulating them for their swift actions."

Iranian president lauds suicide bombers as invincible
Ahmadinejad praises Iran for being able to recruit thousands of suicide bombers a day
Dudi Cohen
Published: 04.01.07, 10:34 / Israel News
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised his country's ability to recruit "hundreds of suicide bombers a day," saying "suicide is an invincible weapon."
Ahmadinejad made the comments during a visit to a site south Iran used to prepare suicide bombers during the Iraq-Iran war, Iranian state television reported.
He praised Hizbullah fighters for their suicidal spirit during last summer's confrontation with Israel.
Iran recruited thousands of suicide bombers, many of whom were children, and sent them to the frontline to face Saddam Hussein's army.
"Suicide bombers in this land showed us the way, and they enlighten our future," he said.
The Iranian president said the will to commit suicide was "one of the best ways of life."

"Spanish police 'smash' Eta unit"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Spanish authorities say they have smashed a commando unit belonging to the Basque separatist group, Eta.
The Spanish interior minister said the unit was thought to have been behind 24 attacks in Spain between 2004 and 2006.
Eight people were held and bomb-making material seized, in what is described as one of the biggest police operations since Eta declared a ceasefire in 2006.
That deal, agreed in March, was broken nine months later by a bomb attack at Madrid airport which killed two people.
The two deaths were the first attributed to Eta in more than three years. The group is seeking an independent state in northern Spain and south-west France."

"Bush calls detention of 15 Britons 'inexcusable'"
By Jon Ward
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
April 1, 2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CAMP DAVID, Md. -- President Bush yesterday said that Iran's detention of 15 British sailors and marines for nine days is "inexcusable behavior," and called for their immediate release.
"The Iranians must give back the hostages. They're innocent," Mr. Bush said during a joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountains."

"Britain and Iran raise the stakes"
By Paul Reynolds
World Affairs correspondent, BBC News website
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Britain and Iran remain locked in diplomatic deadlock over the 15 captured British sailors and marines.
The best hope at the moment is an exchange of diplomatic notes. There is private diplomacy as well as public comment.
Iran has meanwhile used two of the prisoners to make confessions on television that they entered Iranian waters illegally but also to state that they were being well treated. Iran has therefore projected itself as the injured party, one that is correct to demand an apology but also one that is treating its prisoners well.
It has also got captives to call for the US and UK to withdraw from Iraq and to stop its "intervening policies", as one of the letters from Faye Turney put it.
Britain has countered with GPS readings to show that its personnel stayed on the Iraqi side and has undertaken a diplomatic offensive, getting some help from the Security Council and more from the European Union.
The Council simply expressed its "grave concern" and generally weakened the strong message the British wanted. Perhaps memories on the Council of the invasion of Iraq (without which the naval party would not of course have been there) played a part here.
The EU did "deplore" the capture and threatened unspecified "measures" if there was no early release.
However, Britain is refusing to apologise."

Well, an explosive whose components match ETA's Titadyne has been found in one of the explosion scenes in El Pozo's train. That is science.
