Not really. Advances in LEDs and fluorescents can produce matching lumens and similar spectra -- so you get the 'warmth' of incandescents.
Technological advancements in this arena are a good thing.

Actually no, the fluorescent lightbulbs are at least as bright as incandescent. They are also more expensive, however--but last longer, too.

The real issue is my dimmer switch controlled lights and 3-way lights. The new lights don't work, they have only one output level. Think of all the dimmer switch and three-way light factory employees that will be unemployed.
On a serious note, has anyone examined the eviro impact of the disposal of these lights when they become the norm?

No, no offense, but not true.
Fluorescent lamps (bulbs) emit considerably more Lumens (light) per watt than incandescent (tungsten) bulbs.
