Giuliani's problem with the religious [large graphics]
Posted on 02/18/2007 4:12:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson
I don't know about you, but I doubt the Christian conservatives throughout the red state farm belt and especially down in the South are going to cotton to a liberal New York Yankee coming down to try to clean up crime by taking their guns and bringing abortion and gay unions (gay marriage) into their families, schools and churches.

"I only ask you to think rationally and conclude that IF he is the nominee, he will deserve your support."
I don't call abandoning one's principles rational in order to support the Republican party nominee when he stands for next to nothing that I do. He will NOT deserve my support. The nominee needs to EARN my vote; I don't owe it to him. It is irrational to pretend not to notice that IF Giuliani is the Republican nominee, the party has abandoned any conservative values they once had and in effect, has left me, not the other way around.

I doubt that many people are supporting Rudy to throw the Christians under the bus. Rather, they see in Rudy a leader who can lead America in times of war, and destroy terrorism. I, for example, would love to have Mark Sanford in the race. He's a fiscal and social conservative, so it's not about throwing Christians under the bus.

Here's something: he supports the WOT. Hillary does not.

Jim,
Mia's map portrays America as completely Islamic.
You seem to agree that will be the result, if things continue to go terribly wrong.
I suppose I should include you as a fellow "Enemy of Islam", as I proudly here proclaim myself to be.

Now why do you think we'd lose the war by electing a conservative? Is Rudy some kind of military genius that y'all have been hiding from us? Was he a famous general or something in a prior life? What IS his war record now that you bring it up?

Rudy will get the Southern and Christian vote, because the South won't stand by and allow another Clinton to be sworn in. The South won't vote for a gun grabber either. The Southern conservative voter will either stay home or vote 3rd party.

Jim, I believe survival trumps all. Even our strong doctrinal beliefs. Sometimes you have to go outside the system to save the system. Lady Liberty can't lift herself up by her own bootstraps....

Is Rudy some kind of military genius that y'all have been hiding from us? No, but he DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before he prodded President Bush to nominate Bernie Kerik for head of the most important anti-terror job in the country.

I don't think you WANT TO elect hillary clinton. But if you vote 3rd party, stay home, or nominate a nobody loser, you will help to elect her.

Rudy is a socially liberal nominally fiscal conservative with a law and order streak that can trod on the second amendment. If that's your cup of tea, support Rudy.

To: rmlew
Benny is a good man. A shame that the small parties only get cabinet, but not H of S.
At least, thanks to the small parties, the Knesset still has folks with both brains and balls. The same cannot be said of Albion, I'm afraid, nor of most of our other allies.

But almost every Republican and other mainstream citizens who lived in NYC, pre and during Giuliani, know that the Liberal label is crap You are absolutely correct. Other than the fact that Rudy got awards from NARAL, supported Clinton gun-grabbing legislation, is in favor of amnesty and sanctuary for illegals, is not only pro-gay but marches in their parades, is pro-CFR, AND is a new convert to the church of global warming, I can't imagine WHY anyone could think he's a liberal.

There, I fixed it for you. Of all the pro-war Republicans, Rudy probably has the best chance of winning against Hillary.

I don't think you WANT TO elect hillary clinton. But if you vote 3rd party, stay home, or nominate a nobody loser, you will help to elect her.Bush the Elder drifted left in 1992 and split the party. Rudy is already far more liberal than Bush the Elder.
So tell me how Rudy can hold the party together from the far, far left fringes of such.
