The only hit I get for Anthony Mirto and Key Largo is a fourth grader enrolled in the school by that name. Maybe his dad?

Do you really think the MSM would pick this up?

I didn't say I expected to see CNN headlining with it. I just find it strange that NO ONE has picked up on it but ADF. Maybe no one but ADF is aware of it as of yet. We may just be "cutting edge" on this story, but I wanted to make sure. There are lots of conservative blogs and lots of excitable folks out there in cyberspace.

OTOH, I visited Key West last year, and it was definitely leftoidland. They boast that they are "closer to Havana than DC" and kind of gloat in the double entendre. Probably just militant God haters who thought nothing would come of it....., if it is true. ADF does seem like a good outfit from what I have seen. Just would like to see it confirmed somewhere in cyberspace before I call to verify. (I have looked up the number to the sheriff's dept in the county, but am waiting to see if there is more to this story than just a link to a legal activist group). Once burned, and all that.

Thanks for finding that - I checked that site and darned if I could find it... I'd like to think that means the site changed in the last hour but maybe I was just stupid.

Yeah, they love this kind of thing - its controversy and that sells papers. I'm surprised to not find any mention in any media or the sherrif's log of arrests. But since you already found one reference I missed maybe its there and I'm missing it.

I sent a note to the principal hoping the story was in error, and that such a thing did not happen on a public sidewalk. I continued that if the arrest was indeed made from the public sidewalk, the principal needed to reimburse the tax payers for the cost of the private patio, which all had thought was a sidewalk. Incidentally, the principle wrote back and asked me to forward her a copy of the article from which I had gathered my info. Hmmm . . .

That is interesting... I hope you'll let us know about any followup.

Interesting. I live in Ohio and I received a Gideaon Bible in school. The Gidgeon member walked up and down the rows of desks slapping the small books on the desktop, a move that angered a number of us for his irreverence.
But that was circa 1958!

One older kid did complain to the school - which is understandable.

Why is this "understandable"?

I'm not saying that I agree with the kid, but that he complained to the teacher about something he thought was wrong and offensive happening on what he probably consider "His" school (but actualy on the sidewalk). As a young teen, they know what THEIR rights are (anything!) - but I'm not so sure they understand the rights of others so well.

"My granddaughter gets one in school each year. They do that here and it's completely accepted, thank goodness."

Not only does my son get a Bible in school, he gets regularly tested on what's in it! (Goes to a LCMS school.)

I hope we can afford to put our granddaughter in private Christian school by the time she starts high school. We live in a very rural area of Tennessee and bibles and school still go together. I worry about high school though. She's 12 now so it won't be long.

I guess it is time for Key Largo to chime in. I want to post accurate information. I was at the campus that day picking up my friend's child from school. My own children attended Key Largo School in the past. I was approached by the individuals being discussed. They were indeed on school grounds - not a public sidewalk. If you are patient enough to read this, you will all realize how severely blown out of proportion this is. Since most of you do not seem to be from anywhere near the Florida Keys, I feel there is a very important fact you need to know. This is a very long and narrow island chain over 2 hours long with only one road in and one road out. This one road (US 1) is extremely high traveld (that is almost an understatement)It is four lanes wide and is bumper to bumper 24/7. The School sits right on the highway. The traffic issues are very dangerous. Imagine a school of over 1000 students at dismissal time. Imagine the hundreds of parents who pull into a semi-circle in front of the school to pick up their kids, trying to get back out onto a highway that is literally the only way out. I went into the office to complain of men on campus passing out bibles and greatly endangering students because of the disruption of the traffic flow. I did not care what they were passing out, only that they were making things really difficult out there. When I got into the office I heard a woman complaining about the "bible heads" outside (not very nice but I am just trying to put the truth out there.) The lady at the front desk said she would inform administration right away.I then turned around and left. I was in time to see Mrs. Martinson explain to the men where the school property line ended and public property began. They moved at her request. She walked away. The men returned back to where they had been standing on the school campus and once again disturbed the flow of traffic. It was a mess. I spoke to a teacher friend later who gave me some humerous information. The principal thought the original complainer said "bobble heads" and that venders were outside trying to sell them. Even when she approached them and walked away she had still not even noticed bibles. The Principal was again informed that the gentleman were back on campus. At this time she apparently asked the sherrif's dept. for assistance with keeping the men off of the school property. There is sherrif presence outside of the school zone every day because of the danger. The men were arrested for not compying with the request to stay off of school property. Only later did school officials even know what was being distributed. In my opinion, as I have known Mrs. Martinson for years, you are all giving her a raw deal. She is a fair and highly respected educator. I am 110% positive she was concerned for the safety of the students and for the dangers posed with so many motor vehicles - especially after I heard the "bobble head" story! This website requests no personal attacks but WOW, that's mostly what I see. Some of you will give your religion a bad rap as you sound like extremists ready to hang the first person who does not meet your requirements. For people who love their bible/religion, you sure can be mean to someone you do not even know surrounding a situation you were not even present for. I respect your right to pass out bibles but it must be on public property because, face it, not everyone has the same beliefs - that's what makes this country beautiful. The funny part is still - she did not even know! Even if she had, I still think she did the right thing. She was trying to keep our most precious cargo safe. Please do not forget, although I am sure it was not the case with these two gentleman, adult predators come in all shapes and sizes and carry all types of enticements. There are those crazy enough out there to try it with bibles. I am happy Mrs. Martinson was protecting her students and being a traffic cop. There has to be safer places to pass out your bibles. Respectfully, WPHoar

What annoys me is stories like this are often only reported on WorldNetDaily.Com. Lots of folks see that source and don't read any further. One would think a net search would find a local TV, Radio or news paper that carried the story, but my search comes up blank.
