FOX News Poll: Voters Most Comfortable With Rudy Giuliani as President

More voters say they would be comfortable with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani as president than other top 2008 contenders, though majorities would also be comfortable with other leaders from both parties, according to the latest FOX News Poll. In addition, of all the 2008 hopefuls — announced or frequently mentioned as a possibility — voters want to hear more from one candidate specifically: Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from January 30 to January 31. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

I don't do links; my HTML skills are almost nonexistent. How many times do I have to tell you that?

Perhaps someone else can CCP that quote of Rudy's for you, yet again. Goodness knows, it HAS appeared several times on FR already.

Ya, what Rudy was saying is that non paper trail judges might be confirmable if well respected, as an abstract matter. The more complete transcript is below. But certainly, if Rudy runs, he will be closely questioned about his SCOTUS predelictions, and should be. Let Rudy speak for himself, as a candidate on these matters, before one rushes to judgment! Moreover, the dirty little secret, is that in the present toxic environment, and with the present Senate, papar trail nominees might simply not be confirmable. Did you ever consider that?

MATTHEWS: the good old days when f.d.r. could pick Felix Frankfurt and discover he was a conservative or Ike could pick out war yep and find out he was a liberal or suitor could get picked by George bush sr. aren't the days oh when you could pick a guy and not know which way he'll go?

GIULIANI: I don't think so.

MATTHEWS: what about the interest groups, leak you have the people for the American way. And you have James Dobson, focus on the family on the right side of things. Do you think those crowds will let you get by with picking somebody they don't know about?

"GIULIANI: yes. I think they have to. In many cases, first of all, you might select somebody who hasn't really taken a position on any of these issues before.

MATTHEWS: can you get them passed if they have no paper trail?

GIULIANI: I think so. Depending on how powerful the credentials are. Are they very accomplished lawyers, very accomplished judges, do they have the intellectual capacity and the integrity for the job? if they're very powerful candidates, I think there isn't going to be as much focus on one individual position.

That was no personal attack. But I was responding to a person telling us social issue voters,(30 to 40%) should get out.

I'm trying to make a point about how so many Rudy supporters keep calling all us who care about social and gun issues, one issue voters.

Name one, just one, who is now part of the field, who has a chance

What makes you think only the 3 liberals have a chance? I would say a guy like Neut, or Duncan Hunter have as much of a chance as any.

I've NEVER been able to figure out Perot's appeal to some. He is a complete fruitcake and NEVER made any sense whatsoever, with all of his charts and pointers and black helicopter paranoia.

The Clintons were absolutely backing him! Ross hates the Bush family.....ALL of them, so he would have done ANYTHING he could do, to help defeat any one of them.

I know you told me before, but I see a lot of posters asking for links on other things so I thought I'd try again.

I hope someone can post it for you. I'm interested in seeing it because I've done a lot checking on the old internets and I'll be damned if I can find it.

I would never tell anyone to leave the Republican Party but don't kid yourself on the percent of Republicans you say are social issues voters. Not even close to being that high. Not even that high in Oklahoma!

hob·ble Pronunciation (hbl)v. hob·bled, hob·bling, hob·blesv.intr.

To walk or move along haltingly or with difficulty; limp.v.tr.1. To put a device around the legs of (a horse, for example) so as to hamper but not prevent movement.2. To cause to limp.3. To hamper the action or progress of; impede. See Synonyms at hamper1.n.1. A hobbling walk or gait.2. A device, such as a rope or strap, used to hobble an animal. 3. Archaic An awkward situation.

I think what the poster meant was cobbler, as in one who cobbles together things with ellipsis or ellipses. But the use of cobbler in that sense is not used either, since that space has been taken up by the reference to a shoemaker. Just my attempt to read into the poster's mind.

Maybe you'd like someone even MORE liberal than those 3 "liberals".

I don't find his answers to be in the abstract quite as much as you may. Be that as it may, he should be closely questioned and give specific answers on what he would look for in potential judicial nominees.

To be perfectly honest, anyone who supports Roe and McCain-Feingold is going to have a difficult time convincing me I can trust him on this subject.

No, that is NOT so at all. I, for one, and there are many others here, would NOT vote for Newt in the primary, which doesn't matter, since he isn't going to enter it anyway.

He's traveled all over the country, last year, WITH HILLARY, helping her to push her HILLARY CARE PART 2. He is NOT as Conmservative as you think he is, and I haven't forgotten anything about his tenure as House Leader and all of his cavings to the Clintons.

I think you are right PKM. Just look at the Duncan Hunter support here versus in polls outside of FR which represent likely voters.

Good because even though several of you "Rudy" friends keeping suggesting it, I would never leave anyway.

but don't kid yourself on the percent of Republicans you say are social issues voters.

Oh I believe I am right, especially when you give them a reason to vote.
