More voters say they would be comfortable with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani as president than other top 2008 contenders, though majorities would also be comfortable with other leaders from both parties, according to the latest FOX News Poll. In addition, of all the 2008 hopefuls announced or frequently mentioned as a possibility voters want to hear more from one candidate specifically: Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.
Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from January 30 to January 31. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

Just think, a year until the first primary.
"I like the guy. I feel he is an honest and thoughtful individual. In my opinion he would make an excellent VP candidate, nothing more."
I don't understand your reasoning on this point. I thought the most important qualification in choosing a VP is will this person be a good and acceptable President if the worst happens. The Kennedy's thought Lyndon Johnson was manageable and controllable as VP but unfit to be President. We know how that turned out.
"Did you see her last Saturday on C-SPAN? She's been coached. She was as sweet and fresh as an ingenue. It's Hillary v. 1.5."
We are 1.75 years before the election in Nov. 2008. (A full year from primaries) She will be sweet and smart and polished pretty soon. Certainly in time for when most people really pay attention--Labor Day 2008.
Having a Republican candidate that is the picture of the perfect conservative means nothing, if he is not an excellent candidate that can win over voters, from the center and even some democrats. Like Reagan.
Rudy seems to have high likeability ratings. McCain not so good. Romney may turn out to be likeable, too. He is cute, for the ladies--always a factor.
Thank you for that information! I will stay XP SP2 for the foreseable future!
I love your style but not your susbstance.
I'll vote for him all the way
"Rudy Giuliani is a republican ringer to elect Hillary Clinton.."
LOL
"Newt is the ONLY republican that can be elected president in 2008.."
LOL even harder.
I guess if I vote for Rudy, I'm voting for a liberal. Knowing I am not as conservative as most on FR does not really bug me anymore.
Did you have personal issues with Ronald Reagan being close with Rock Hudson?
As to charts, big deal. Who are you - Ross Perot? The only chart that's gonna matter is Nov 2008.
Rudi's lack of military service, his failed family life, his recent conversion from anti-2nd amendment positions and his former support of gay marriage puts him way into my uncomfortable zone.
Go were you wanna go, to what you gotta do....sounds like lyrics from a song.
Thanks for your service, Jim Freedom US Army Signal Corps 1968 - 1969.
"He is a candidate. You feel this behavior should be ignored that's fine. I'm a realist, it can't be ignored."
I'm a realist too. I realize that it doesn't matter in the least and won't affect his performance at all should he be elected President.
Both Hillary Clinton and Giuliani already have gone to some lengths to court support from gay voters, and Hillary Clinton's advisers said they were concerned that the mayor might do well among a group of voters that has historically been viewed as a reliable part of the Democratic base.
At the fund-raiser, Hillary Clinton also voiced support for domestic partnership measures that would allow gay partners to receive the same benefits as married couples.
On this, her position is similar to the one taken by Giuliani, who supported a domestic partnership law in 1997. The mayor frequently remarks that he signed the city's first domestic partnership legislation.
I'm sure I'm not the first to say this but I'll vote for Rudy because I'd rather look at his legs than Hillary's.
As fondly remembered as Giuliani is for responding to Sept. 11, however, most Americans don't know much else about him. Barely one in five Republicans knew that he supports abortion rights and civil unions for same-sex couples, the USA TODAY poll found. Nearly as many thought he was "pro-life" as said he was "pro-choice."
When they were told about his stance on those issues, his star dimmed. One in five Republicans said his views would "rule him out as a candidate" they could support. That included one-third of those who attend church every week, an important base of the GOP that makes up a third of party loyalists.
Another 25% of Republicans said his views made them less likely to support him, nearly double the proportion who said they made them more likely to support him.
I dont disagree on Duncan Hunter but realistically - I dont' think he has much of a chance. I KNOW he is a good guy, and I met his staff while I worked in NoVA. Great people.
And unfortunately, the country wont take another Bush after GWB - although Jeb would be great.
..after the Libby thing is over--substitute Dick Cheney's name for Jeb...
Nothing like a fight to the death to see who is more Liberal... Rudy vs. hilary
