NBC's Anti-Rudy Push Poll
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/27/2007 9:01:32 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Definition: Push Poll: "A push poll is a political campaign technique in which an individual or organization attempts to influence or alter the view of respondents under the guise of conducting a poll. Push polls are generally viewed as a form of negative campaigning. The term is also sometimes used incorrectly to refer to legitimate polls which test political messages, some of which may be negative. Push polling has been condemned by the American Association of Political Consultants."
Melissa Russo, political reporter for NBC's NYC affiliate WNBC, recently followed Rudy Giuliani up to New Hampshire. In her report on this morning's "Today," Russo stressed that at a GOP campaign stop, Giuliani failed to inform the Granite State Republicans that "he's far from a social conservative."

View video here.

So Russo decided to take it upon herself to inform them. Here's Russo interviewing a nice Republican lady:

Russo: "Did you know he was pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro gay rights?"

Nice Republican lady: "No-o-o-o."

Russo: "Would that affect your support for him?"

Nice Republican lady: "Ye-s-s."

Have a look again at that definition of push polling. Sound to you like Russo was engaging in it?

How is supporting supporting conservatives a liberal thing? That is one hell of a stretch.

Now, supporting a liberal for a republican slot, clearly that's liberal ideology. Definitely not that of someone who is a member of a conservative website.

You should reconsider your membership here with that form of intellectual dishonesty.

So now you say Rudy is against the Constitution and Citizens rights?

I'm not one bit shocked you would say something as baseless as that.

P.S your definition of Totalitarian Populism is correct up to the point of the "party to which he is a member" The correct definition should be ammended to read; "individual philosophy of the majority"

May actually expand base, big tent like Reagan.

Do you seriously think an anti-constitution, pro gay, pro abortion candidate would do that? Not one chance in hell!

Duncan Hunter could, though, as he is very Reagan like, which seems closer to what you want than Rudy it seems. Why would you not support somenone who is very similar to what many consedered a near-ideal president instead of someone who goes against a lot of what reagan stood for?

I am supporting a conservative. If you actually looked back at all you have said over the past several days on numerous Rudy threads and have seen a DU thread well they are becoming indistinguishable in there irrationality, meanness , myopic view, etc and etc. There that better?

Oh yeah I am not going anywhere.

VIDEO of RINO-Rudy is MUCH more informative than staged photos (though, he can't hide the baldness).

In video clips, you can SEE his nervous tick (you know the one, when his EYES WIDEN like a dain-bramaged madman, and at the most inapproriate times, every other few words), and you can HEAR his speech impediment.

Things a regular guy wouldn't have to worry about, but NOT the best "face" on a person that might run to be the leader of the free world and represent the United States around the world.

More importantly than that however, is what a video (or audio) clip can TELL us about RINO-rudy's political views. They are, on par, DECIDEDLY LIBERAL (witness the gun-grabbing video clip posted a day or two ago on FR).

It is TRULY AMAZING that ANYONE on FR would even THINK of supporting him for anything but dog catcher, or maybe mayor of NYC.

The second amendment is a part of the constituion, and rudy is against it. The same constitution which he would swear to support and defend is the one he would pay lip service to.

It is a citizens right to be protected from invasions of our borders, which Rudy is for. That's not exactly stron on defense, either, which rudy-lovers claim is his strong suit, too.

My points are accurate, not at all baseless as you claim

That was before 9-11 and you know it. He is for closed borders. But in your small world whatever someone says years ago is what they believe today. People evolve -- I know I have and would hope others have as well. My priorities in politics today are not the same as they were before 9-11. I would hope that is the same for everyone but obviously from some of the comments on here it is not.

9-11 changed a lot of us and probably no one more at a political level then Rudy himself. You have no clue as to how many people in this Country respect Rudy and the cheap shots you all keep giving him is not doing your candidate whoever that is any service because it only shows how mean spirited you all are when you don't get your way.

I posted this yesterday:

"I've lived in NYC for many years, and before Rudy was mayor this city was a different place. Crime, violence, corruption and drug use were common and rampant. Rudy changed this, his tough "take no prisoners approach" worked, much to Al Sharpton's, Jesse Jackson's, Jerrold Nadler's, Chuckie Schumer's, David Dinkin's and other wussie liberals dismay. I happily voted for Rudy for Mayor in 1993 and 1997, and I will consider voting for him for president. By the way, I'm a 44 year old male, I'm happily married with two kids, I've been a registered Repub since 1980, I've never voted for a dem or Independent in any election, I voted for Reagan/Bush/Dole/Bush for president, I'm pro-life, pro-gun ownership and I do not support gay marriage. Do I think a President Rudy would threaten my social beliefs? Simple answer, no."

I like Rudy, I trust him and I will strongly consider voting for him.

Rudy isn't for changing the 2nd amendment and he is for sealing the border. And he is for appointing strict constructionist justices.

FA, you are probably right. Maybe, at least, and unlike many others on FR, glgb can come around if given a chance.

You seem to be confusing the two different sides of the debate as being similar. DU hates Rudy because of some of his conservative leanings. Conservatives dislike Rudy because of his very strong liberal leanings. That leaves only the uninformed middle ground for Rudy to draw votes from.

Yeah, he's doing great in polling right now based solely on name recognition, but as more people, like those in the article, find out the real stuff, he'll lose more and more support from both sides.

Hunter is a Reagan style conservative. Remember the reagan landslide votes? We could have that again, but not with rudy!

Show me where Rudy is against the Second amendment. If you base that claim on what he did to make NY City's streets safer, is is simply more dishonest rhetoric among several, that are not truthfully legitimate.

Rudy is very strong on the Constitution as it stands. The Second amendment could never be safer with him in office.
