(AP) WASHINGTON On Capitol Hill, senators sometimes put holds on presidential nominees. But it was a House member, freshman Rep. Michele Bachmann, who put a hold on the president Tuesday night.
As Bush made his way through the crowd of lawmakers after his State of the Union speech, he signed autographs, including two for Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican. But after the president turned to greet someone else, Bachmann put her hand on his shoulder and held it there.
The hold lasted as Bush shook hands and chatted with other lawmakers on the other side of the aisle, his back to Bachmann. It remained there even as Bush turned back around to kiss a lawmaker next to Bachmann. Finally, the president leaned into Bachmann for a kiss.
All told, Bachmann had Bush in her grasp for nearly 30 seconds.
"She is a freshman member of Congress," said Bachmann's spokeswoman, Heidi Frederickson. "She's been here for less then three weeks. She was just incredibly honored to be on the floor of the House, sitting next to the president of the United States, after the State of the Union address. And frankly, with the president's poll numbers, he could use a little pat on the back."
Frederickson said the congresswoman staked out a seat Tuesday morning, putting down some personal items, as did other lawmakers who wanted access to the president.
"It's pretty commonplace for members of Congress to stand along the aisle, shake the president's hand, for the ladies to get kisses, and to receive autographs," said Frederickson.
White House spokesman Alex Conant said Bush always enjoys meeting with members of Congress following his speech.
"We had positive reactions on both sides of the aisle and look forward to continuing the dialogue," he said.
Must be the MSM desperate attempt to link Bush with Clinton like attributes that take advantage of starry eyed women
The Twin City, anti-Christian, pro-muslim-pro-Keith Ellison media has been all over this, in a smear attempt....

Next, the MSM will report it as a date ...
She is my rep. I like her, I support her and I am very proud of her.
Enough said.

Wolf: Mr president, during the SOTU address a certain new female member lingered for quite a while around you and held on to you for a seemingly long time, do you find that inappropriate behavior?
Mr. President: Wolf, I have no idea what you are talking about?
Wolf: She had you in her grip for a long time, you didn't notice a woman who is not your wife was touching you ?
Mr. President: Wolf, I was touched by many people that night.
Wolf: At what point did you think she was touching you to long and did the first lady have to say anything about this event?
Mr. President: Wolf let's talk about issues that really matter to the American people
Wolf: We did a CNN action poll and the American people really want to know what was going though you mind while she was touching you
Hey, it could happen
Maybe they hope that she's a Monica in the crowd? They missed her when it counted and make something out of nothing when it doesn't.
The gal was starstruck...who wouldn't be? And George Bush is HOT (sorry guys, but the ladies out there know what I'm talkin 'bout).
When women were starstruck over Clinton the MSM considered it totally expected and certainly un-newsworthy. They also figure it to be an endorsement of his policies (and what were they again?).
Now we have a starstruck freshman rep who can't keep her mits off W. and it's suddenly so "strange" and "odd" and "newsworthy." Like, obviously this woman who adores W. is some kind of mental patient and deserves articles like this trying to explain this strange phenomena.
It is simply ploite to put your hand on the shoulder of someone to whom you wish to speak, if they are already speaking with someone else. In this way, you convey to them that another party desires a moment of their time WITHOUT being so rude as to verbally interrupt them.
My 4-year-old knows this.
Rep. Bachmann, far from descending to the level of the MSM's getter-level fantasies, is exhibiting GOOD MANNERS, which is precisely why the MSM didn't recognize it; they've NO FAMILIARITY with such things.
Not after today's interview between Cheny and Blitzer; if I was the administration, I would boycott CNN. Blitzer was more than a clymer, he was a pig.
O*o. sigh o.O*
Uh, "polite", that is. P-O-L-I-T-E. Well-mannered. Classy. High-born.
You get the idea.
It's just sex, can't we move on?
For conservatives, though, Bachmann is a person to watch. She will be a delight.
We all noticed it on the live thread (on Day in the Life), but considered it understandable and nothing like Sheila Jackson Lee's pathetic attempts to ambush the Prez for a photo op.
The redstar tribune is trying to portray
Bachman as a loser on ALL fronts because she beat a demonrat on principals-Pro life- Lower taxes-
They have already printed editorials and news clips
portraying her as a no-nothing who "hangs" onto
the president.
But Monica being "attached" to another former President in a "different" way was quite OK in the eyes of the Drive By Media just a few years ago.
My have times have changed.......
I stopped reading the Strib long ago. It's such a rag. Real entertainment, when speaking to a Minnesota liberal, comes in saying I get my news from the Drudge Report for the headlines, FOX for the broadcast story and a few details, and, for conversational news, an outlet that still upholds journalistic standards, The National Enquirer.
I kinda liked the story, very heartwarming. I'd like to give the President a pat on the back too. I like President Bush and his speech was a political masterstroke.
I wish or guys in Congress would get-it-together and join the president and stymie the democrats.
Is the word VICTORY in this non-binding resolution? What a complete circus this congress is.
