WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has signaled to Gulf Arab allies that an attack on Iran could take place in 2007.
Diplomatic sources said the Bush administration has raised the prospect of a U.S. strike on Iran over the next few months. The sources said the discussions with Gulf Cooperation Council states have also been conducted by U.S. Central Command as well as the U.S. intelligence community.
"There has not been a U.S. commitment, but the discussions have been interpreted as an expression of intent," the source said. "Right now, the U.S. message is that the GCC must get ready for any contingency."
On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meets foreign ministers from the GCC states as well as Egypt and Jordan. The sources said Ms. Rice intends to brief the foreign ministers on U.S. strategy toward Iraq and Iran in a meeting scheduled to take place in Kuwait.
Iran ping
mull, mull, mull... how long do we mull around here?
I hope we don't go there.
I thought we were recently told by the WH, that we had no plans to invade Iran?
I'm afraid an attack on Iran while we are still heavily involved in Iraq would cause riots over here. The "anti-war movement" would expand beyond your average leftist and more to the population at large.
Mulling for the mullahs?......
I hope we don't do it.
Nah.
maybe he's not planning on invading, but bombing them back a few years?
Got that right. There may be an anti Ahmadinejad faction in Iran, but if westerners were to invade, they would defend in waves...no one wants to be invaded.
Probably just talk to keep them guessing and maybe to reveal some things. I doubt its true because it wouldn't make sense to tell them our plans ahead of time.
I am perpetually mulling it.
I bet the retaliations would be massive, plus, I doubt there would be any international support for it.
LOL, let's warn our enemies we are going to attack.
Give them the heads up.
We really need to finish the job in Iran first.
Once they are established, we can then move forward.
Apparently they never heard of one thing at a time.
Nothing like letting our enemies know every step we take.
I think "Shock and AWE" Part II should be coming any time now. Too bad our modern equipment and internet allows for the enemy to know where our military is sending its fleet in advance. Could be that Bush is intending to discover if Abinutjob intends to push any buttons. If we put the FULL FORCE of the US MILITARY on the mideastern borders of IRAQ and IRAN and just LET LOOSE, we'd have this DONE and over with!
