A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Football is one of those sports I know soooo little about - and at the same time, have very little interest in. However, I realize that the majority of my threads have been mostly for the girls - you know, pretty posts! Therefore, I feel I owe it to you guys after 4 1/2 years, to do something you like - so let's talk football today. (Or rather, you talk; I'll just do what you do when we talk....nod my head every once in a while and say, "Uh huh," and "Yes, dear."
I know SuperBowl XLI is coming up on Sunday, February 4th (I looked that up!), and these four remaining teams face off this Sunday. Only one game away from the SuperBowl for each. Will the Saints triumph over the Bears? Will the Patriots beat the Colts?
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS NEW ORLEANS SAINTS CHICAGO BEARS NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Which two teams do you think will make it all the way to Super Sunday in Florida? Which one do you want to win? Which one do you think will win, and which one will be left crying when it's all over?

"Half this game is ninety percent mental" - Danny Ozark, manager of the Philadelphia Phillies
A guy took his girlfriend to her first football game. Afterward he asked her how she liked the game. "I liked it, but I couldn't understand why they were killing each other for 25 cents," she said. "What do you mean?" he asked. "Well, everyone kept yelling, 'Get the quarter back!"

The three bears had been having some trouble recently and ended up in family court. Momma and Poppa bear were splitting up, and baby bear had to decide who he was going to live with. So, the judge wanted to talk to baby bear to see what he thought about living with either of his parents. When he asked baby bear about living with his father, baby bear said "No, I can't live with Poppa bear, he beats me terribly." "Okay," said the judge, "Then you want to live with your mother, right?" "No way!" replied baby bear, "She beats me worse than Poppa bear does." The judge was a bit confused by this, and didn't quite know what to do. "Well, you have to live with someone, so are there any relatives you would like to stay with?" "Yes," answered baby bear, "my aunt Bertha bear who lives in Chicago." You're sure she will treat you well and won't beat you?" asked the judge. "Oh certainly," said baby bear, "The Chicago Bears don't beat anybody."

A football coach walked into the locker room before a game, looked over to his star player and said, "I'm not supposed to let you play since you failed math, but we need you in there. So, what I have to do is ask you a math question, and if you get it right, you can play." The player agreed, and the coach looked into his eyes intently and asks, "Okay, now concentrate hard and tell me the answer to this. What is two plus two?" The player thought for a moment and then he answered, "4?" "Did you say 4?" the coach exclaimed, excited that he got it right. At that, all the other players on the team began screaming, "Come on coach, give him another chance!"

A young man was very excited because he just won a ticket to the Super Bowl. His excitement lessened as he realized his seat was in the back of the stadium. As he searched the rows ahead of him for a better seat, he found an empty one right next to the field. He approached the man sitting next to the empty seat and asked if it was taken. The man replied, "No." Amazed the young man asked, "How could someone pass up a seat like this?" The older gentleman responded, "That's my wife's seat. We've been to every Super Bowl together since the day we were married but she has passed away." "Oh, how sad," the man said. "I'm sorry to hear that, but couldn't you find a friend or relative to come with you?" "No," the man said, "They're all at the funeral."

Basketball, let's see, Rockets or Spurs, or some other team? Not much for B-ball myself anymore, but will watch the playoffs.
I didn't answer your question about which team I thought would win. I thought the Chargers would, but now I'm thinking maybe the Colts could go all the way. Last two games I saw, I thought their offense and defense played pretty well.
I confess, I'd like Peyton to get a ring, I think he's a great quarterback.

Basketball, let's see, Rockets or Spurs, or some other team? Not much for B-ball myself anymore, but will watch the playoffs. You know, call me weird or something I guess, but it's never been important to me that a 'home' team win. Last year I did want the Dallas Mavericks to win though. I used to want Utah Jazz to win so badly! And it didn't matter who was in the finals, if one was Phil Jackson's team (Chicago Bulls OR LA Lakers), I was pulling for the other team! Jackson won too many - he's good though. I'm just usually cheering for the underdog.
Good luck to the Colts - have heard Peyton Manning's name a lot!
Am tired tonight and going to get some sleep - will be back in the morning. Thanks - enjoyed talking with you - maybe more tomorrow. :)

Well, doggone it, my team lost Sunday. The Chargers are out of it, so, I am too. I don't particularly care who plays in the Super Bowl or who wins. I think I'll just go shopping. :-)
But I think it was very considerate of you, Billie, to create a "guy" thread for our guys, and very nicely done too!

GRRRRRRRReat thread, MIss Billie ... and I love the way you framed it.
I watched the Patriots beat our hometown team yesterday, sitting in the living room of my buddy's house. He's a Boston boy and so was in great anxiety the whole time, and greatly relieved and happy when it was over.
Football is the game of games, but I'm not so much a fan as I used to be.
Ever since 9/11, sports just don't do it for me.
The only contest I really care about these days is the one between Freedom and Terror ... Dubya's our quarterback, and our coach ... he's the one I'm rootin' fer ... )
Still, hanging out with friends and watching a good game makes for a fine day ... kinda like dropping in here at the Finest.
Life can be very good.

Look It Up
READ:
Genesis 39:1-12How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Genesis 39:9 Some online dictionaries report each year on what words were looked up the most on their site. For 2005, some of the most popular words were refugee, pandemic, tsunami, and levee. Because of worldwide catastrophic events that year, we can readily understand why those words were checked.
The most popular lookup for the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary that year was the word integrity. The definition given is: firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. Its used to describe those who are unwilling to be bribed or morally corrupted. Why was that word on the top of the list? Could it be because integrity is so lacking that many dont know what it looks like in someones life?
In His Word, God gave us an example of integrity in the life of Joseph. Potiphar had put him in charge of overseeing his house and all that he had (Gen. 39:5). When he was propositioned by his masters wife, Joseph refused, saying, How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? (v.9). He knew what Gods standards were, and he chose to stand for the rightat the cost of his freedom.
Integritylook it up in Genesis 39. Then live it out in Gods strength.
For Further Thought
In what ways have I been a person of integrity when it was tough?
When have I failed? Whose standards do I live by?
What do I need to change?
No legacy is as rich as integrity.

wonderful thread billie.. love the pledge & the ping.
your great sense of humor glows thru the post.
I will watch the super-bowl (I always do) even though the Browns are NOT part of it (shock, shock,...they are NEVER part of it)
I know as many women as men who truly love & follow football. I am one of them. I love college ball & also follow a few high school teams locally.
I recall my first Browns games in Cleveland decades ago with my dad in the OLD stadium. really got caught up in spirit before I learned any technical parts of the game. But first memories are of being cold. VERY cold. Winter in Ohio, ON LAKE, in cold, drafty stadium was in negative wind chill numbers.
well, we have a "healthy coating" of snow & it is still falling. we are "due". Had such a mild winter thus far so that there was NOTHING to complain about. Still isn't. This is just a tease.

Grrreat job on the thread, Billie. I'm a diehard baseball fan, but watch the occasional football game, will probably take a look at Super Bowl.
Believe it or not, we STILL do not have a home team in Los Angeles. The days of the Rams are long over and the Raiders always belonged in Oakland.
Thanks for doing this thread for the guys!!

Pssst! It doesn't really matter to me who plays either, but at least I learned who's in and who's out so far! Shopping sounds like a whole lot more fun. :)
