I hadn't heard about that poem. Is there any reason to believe he wrote it other than the use of "devlin" and "shawn"?
I think I found the case Fox reported on. It does look like it could be Shawn's biological father. I'm not sure what the reporter meant by something happening in 2002. The case I found had an arrest warrant issued in April 1993 (when Shawn was not yet two, I believe) and the conviction was made in 1994. However, the information I found does not have any details on the charges filed nor the sentence given.
In any case, I think it all is neither here or there and very sick for the media to bring up like this.
Sadly, I think you are close to the target and in the media's implying that the boy stayed because he wanted to stay with Devil
Yes, the twisted part of their statement is that they equate Devlin with Shawn and Ben when there are very distinct differences:
Devlin is an adult and Shawn and Ben are boys (and Shawn was even younger than Ben when he was abducted). We as members of a civilized society are responsible to look out for the children around us, not to remove them from their families and/or harm them as Devlin did.
Devlin was the perpetrator and the boys were the victims. Devlin isn't a victim in any sense in this case. He acted of his own free will. This was a choice he made. Ben and Shawn had no choice whatsoever in the matter. They are the victims at the hands of their perpetrator, Devlin.
I can understand Devlin's family's concern for him, but to try to conjure up the same type of sympathy and compassion for their son Devlin that we as a society have for Shawn and Ben, is despicable in my opinion. They're trying to blur the distinct lines that completely separate their son from these innocent boys.
The title of the article? "I'm Still Too Scared to tell Mom and Dad". In this headline the New York Post is referring to the 41 year old man who is arrested for kidnapping two small boys. "Mom and Dad?"
From the article" "Devlin, 41, said his life took a dramatic turn in 2002, when he was diagnosed with diabetes, which led to amputations of the big toe and another toe on his right foot in 2003, shortly after Hornbeck went missing.
The loss of his toes made it difficult for him to maintain his balance and he had to give up his passion for hunting and fishing, Devlin said.
"I'm an outdoorsman, but not anymore," he said.
At the same time, he began to lose contact with his close circle of friends - most of them current or former employees of Imo's, the pizza parlor he managed in Kirkwood and where he'd worked since he was 16.
They used to get together at his old apartment to play video games or Texas hold 'em, he said. Sometimes, they would head out to Missouri's riverboat casinos and play poker or craps together."
It sounds to me as if the NYP is now injecting itself into the defense of Devlin. There is an ongoing investigation into other kidnappings. Judging from the accuracy of the FNC and NYP's reporting so far, I'm not holding my breath that they have this right yet. The Pizza owner said several days ago that he had never been to Devlin's apartment.
Oh, and another thing. Local Channel 5 newsreporter Mike Owens was denied access to interview Devlin yesterday. So somehow, miraculously a New York Post reporter got access to him twice yesterday, and then the attorney's put out a statement saying that no one was to have access to him except themselves and his family.
Something stinks at Newscorp.
Summary of New York Times Article:
Walter Hornbeck was 60 years old when Shawn was born in July of 1991. When Shawn was only 6 months old, Pam kicked Walter out of the house and divorced him. Shawn was 1 yr old. After this, Walter had little if any contact with Shawn.
Walter then was arrested in Washington County on September 30, 1992 for rape. Shawn was 14 months old.The file is sealed and it's not clear who the victim is but the clerk of said it appears it may be a minor. Walter pled guilty to attempted sodomy and possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison in 1994. He was released in 1997. Shawn was 6 years old, but the two had no contact. Walter Hornbeck died on June 9, 2000 while on parole.
At the time of Hornbeck's arrest, Shawn's sisters, Jackie and Jennifer were ages 7 and 6.
Pamela marred Craig Akers in 1999. New York post contacted the Akers and they would not discuss it.
So Shawn was a little over a year old when his father was arrested. Shawn had no contact with him since then. It is doubtful the father committed any crime on Shawn. Craig is the only father that Shawn has ever known. The Akers refused to discuss it with the new york times which will in no doubt cause this not to die until they do. My personal belief is the Devils lawyers put this information out there. This will probably be a first among many. The DA's from both counties for both boys are keeping tight lipped about their case. Do not forget that the DA from Washington County, same county Shawns bio father was arrested, said that Shawn is the victim here....end of story.
Correction:
"New York Times" = New York Post....sorry it is too early in the morning for me!
this is disgusting reporting. Shawn's father died in 200, not 1999 and not 2002 like the NYpost reporter reported last night! Shawn's biological father was out of his life at the age of 6 months and I don't he ever saw him again after that.
There should be a law protecting children from reporters trashing their family like this! This is so gross.
sure!
Another story in NYPost, about Devlin.
Devlins says he was happy the last 4 yrs. Says he has no interest in sex. He became lonely before 4 yrs ago because his friends were getting families of their own. He scoffs at others thinking he is dangerous.
Get out the violin music....it is a sad read/sarcasm off

i don't believe a word Devlin has to say. If he was so happy than he wouldn't have kidnapped Shawn and BEN!
Please send what you posted #2105 to the Line-up. It is just terrible what they are doing to Shawn and his family.
____________
January 21, 2007 -- The man who fathered kidnapped teen Shawn Hornbeck was a convicted sex offender who did three years in a Missouri prison on drug and sodomy charges, The Post has learned.
The late Walter Hornbeck was 60 when Shawn was born to him and his wife, Pamela Akers. He had little contact with his son, Akers said.
Akers kicked him out of the house when the boy was just 6 months old, and the couple divorced in 1992, about a year after Shawn was born.
Hornbeck was arrested in Washington County, near St. Louis, on Sept. 30, 1992, and charged with rape, although it's unclear who the victim was. Details of the case were not available, and most of the record has been sealed.
But a court official said the reference number on Hornbeck's criminal conviction indicated the charge involved an assault on a minor.
At the time of his arrest, Hornbeck also lived with Shawn's older sisters, Jackie and Jennifer, who were then 7 and 6, respectively.
Hornbeck pleaded guilty to attempted sodomy, a felony, as well as possession of a controlled substance and he was sentenced to seven years in state prison in 1994.
He got out in 1997, when Shawn was 6, but the two had no further contact, said Akers. Hornbeck died July 9, 2000, while on parole.
Pamela married Shawn's stepdad, Craig Akers, in 1999. The couple would not discuss the matter in an interview with The Post.
Shawn's half-brother Ted Hornbeck, who met the freed teen for the first time last Sunday, called their troubled dad "a survivor."
"My father did whatever he had to do to get by," he said.

I have been going over the posts. I thought the email address for the line up was posted but cannot seem to find it. Do you know what it is by any chance?
Thanks!
Oh, never mind. I found it.
If anyone wants to know it is:
Lineup@foxnews.com
You are exactly right by the way the article is written.
Prepare yourself however there may be more so called "bombshells" against the victim. Like I said before,I believe that Devlins attorneys are putting this information out there as a foundation to their defense. When the DA's finally start releasing some of their evidence, these "bombshell" reports against the victim and family will pale in comparison. Did you read the other story in the Post today about Devlin. He says he was "relatively happy" the last 4 yrs. And by the way, not even his own family has visited him since he has been arrested.
I'm sure Devlin did that as well as threaten him over and over not to leave. It was a combination and constant stress on that child. We may never imagine the horrors that child was put through!
FYI
Kimberly Guilfoyle Fox News...will be doing an indepth report on the story tonight, Sunday at 10:00pm eastern time.
